Re: He has a point

The try scorer is the person who takes the place kick and within a 30 second clock. Bonus point scoring zones are used in league nines. Trial bonus Try zones at each corner? Four points for a drop goal from outside the opposition 10 metre line. Tournaments introducing an Extra match bonus point for ...

Re: Dan McFarland

Don’t underestimate the role that Soper will have in the evolution of younger squad players this season. McFarland said “The role Dan does is close to my heart in terms of personal development - developing individual relationships with players to bring them through, which is something that going for...

Re: Schools Cup 2018

The Blackrock power game clicked especially during the first half of today's Senior Cup Final 35 v 12 victory over Belvedere. 21 points up after about 20 minutes. What made it click was the speed of their plays and the crisp passing game which had first appeared in their semi against St Mary's. Inte...

Re: Schools Cup 2018

Congratulations to Glenstal beating the Cork Christians to win the Munster Schools Cup for the first time ever. 18 v 17. Great to see this smaller school break through and avenge last years defeat to PBC. The Glenstal stand off and Captain Ben Healy is a very composed operator and their No8 Mark Fle...

Re: This Day in History

Ken Goodall's try was one of the classics of the amateur era. What a tragedy that he had to turn pro and was blackballed by the rugby union but that was the way things were in those days. Once you crossed over to league you became a non-person, you didn't exist anymore. The St Helens board spent ye...

Re: 2,3 and Medallion cup/sheilds 2017

Congratulations to the Academy boys. One of the largest across the board packs I've seen at Junior Cup level. They played to their strength keeping the ball largely through the middle of the pitch and were a constant nuisance at ruck time. Special credit to the Ballymena back who tracked back and di...

Re: Schools Cup 2018

Armagh have only lost 4 players from last years Senior team and are boosted by some of last years Medallion winners. The force is with them. The Belvedere St Michaels Semi final yesterday was a great watch with late drama. Michaels had been the team of the tournament so far with their flowing plays ...

Re: Super Rugby 2018

In Christchurch they breed them for attack and cull them on defence. Forget about the points scored against them so far, the Crusaders are still the best Boa Constrictor team in NZ across the full width of the park. Last weeks Crues Chiefs contest was a proper belter. The switch speed from defence t...

Re: Schools Cup 2018

The search is for exceptional individual talent In each province. Michael Milne the Roscrea tight head scored two tries and was a real tyro in the defeat to St Mary's yesterday. Great to see two teams playing fast attacking rugby. Hats off to the lighter packed Mary's who worked tirelessly and found...

Re: Schools Cup 2018

Last month Belvedere College named a Senior squad of 72 players for their Schools Cup run with 15 backroom staff supporting coaches Werahiko and Wood. Best Large Schoolboy Herd in Ireland? In yesterday's Quarter Final against Newbridge they stuttered in the first half but power played their way to v...

Re: 2,3 and Medallion cup/sheilds 2017

There's a lot of rugby personality throughout the CCB Medallion team this year but to give some perspective Blackrock beat them 40-7 earlier in the season. Saying that the current Rock set have arguably the strongest squad ever to play in the Junior Cup.

Re: Kiss gone with immediate effect

Chris Boyd came across as a very impressive man manager during the three part fly-on-the-wall documentary about the Hurricanes in 2016. If it weren't for the parallel demise of Mallander at the Saints Boyd would have been on the IRFU radar for the DoR job here.

Re: Any word on the Academy?

Adding to the article on St Michaels, the top Dublin school teams all have collegiate management teams, not just figure head DoRs or Head Coaches. This year Belvedere have an extended senior playing squad of 72 players supported by 15 coaching and backroom staff including Phil Werahiko and Andy Wood...
