Re: AIL 2019/2020

I've caught a couple of "Energia AIL" games, has made grim watching for the most part - I watched Hinch get beaten at home by Terenure and UCD (in fairness two reasonably close games, which Hinch just couldn't quite get on top and squeeze out a victory), however much better on Saturday when they wal...

Re: Munster v Ulster Sat 5:15pm

I thought it was a reasonably encouraging performance - definitely glass half-full IMO. And in fairness I haven't watched it back, I couldn't do that to myself, so these were my 'live' impressions. To start with the bad - handling errors killed us, and our lineout misfired a few times, and in genera...

Re: Connacht 2019/20

It’s also fair to say that the coach isn’t doing badly, notwithstanding the stick he got when he was linked with the Ulster hot seat. True - I include myself there.. Mind you - what a hoking! Yes they have a load of injuries, and Leinster were pretty class, but it was a pretty disappointing perform...

Re: London Irish 2019/2020

yes PJ at 15 the last couple of games, I think it's because they want Myler in to kick goals.. Great result for Irish, I have to say I didn't really see them as automatic demotion favourites as they were widely talked about, a pretty solid side with some quality still to come in.. Some big names in ...

Connacht 2019/20

Just noticed that the Westies don't have their own thread - they've had a class start to the season, probably the most impressive Irish province so far. Adeolokun and Farrell in great nick, Peter Robb looking good, Conor Fitzgerald looks like a useful player. The only shame is Paddy Mac's injury - h...

Re: Ulster v Zebre Friday 1st Nov 7:35pm

Hmm yes I wasn't there on Friday, but I didn't really enjoy the Cardiff game - atmosphere wasn't great, agree with the general sentiment about the music etc. There's a bit of the 'enforced jollity' of party games at a work Christmas do about it.. It'll be interesting to see if it picks up when the E...

Re: Munster 2019/20

Two great signings if they come off.

Delighted to see the IRFU still feverishly trying to bail out the loan-defaulters

Anyway on a rugby front, they've looked pretty good I think - good performance on Friday, including a couple of lovely tries..

Re: TRANSFER RUMOURS!!

Sammy Arnold coming back next season i believe. Munster have signed the 2 South Africans and are after another import for next year too. They could easily play Kleyn, Snyman at lock anf and Botha, Cloete, Stander in back row next season. All south African With Knox at THP, Munsouth Africa Arnold co...

Other teams support

This is a bit of a silly season topic, but interested to see if I'm a weird outlier - after Ireland what international sides do you cheer on? The reason I ask is that I recently said in a whatsapp group that I was cheering on England against NZ, and would also support them against either Wales or SA...

Re: Japan RWC

I see England has been fined because a couple of their guys stepped over the half way line during the NZ song and dance. What a load of ballix. indeed and the irony of World Rugby on the one hand pushing out footage of it on social media for the likes, and on the other hand fining England has been ...

Re: Ulster v Cardiff Fri 25th October 7:35pm

I think our pack suffers from a lack of balance in the front row and back row. In the prop dept we have a couple of quality athletes with a very high work-rate, but who aren't (yet) dominant in the scrum (EOS and TOT) - and on the other hand in Marty Moore a strong scrummager who is less active in t...

Re: In Defence of Schmidt, Ireland's RWC and where to now?

One other nugget I heard in the aftermath of the Japan game - full disclosure third hand (a mate is good mates with a guy who used to work in S&C with one of the provinces) anyway this guy spoke to a senior member of the squad who he is pretty tight with, said you guys looked busted out there, what ...

Looked like a significant knee injury to me - let's hope not.
Indeed - I actually thought it looked like a bad hamstring injury. I see that he said on Instagram that he hopefully won’t be out too long so fingers crossed

Re: Ulster v Cardiff Fri 25th October 7:35pm

rubbish performance, good first quarter but then we did nothing for the rest of the match! Didn't look after the ball at all well, and our scrum is worryingly creaky... That should have been a 5 pointer, the one consolation is that it felt a little like one of those nights where we were off colour a...
