Re: Best rugby player from each of the 32 counties
Surprised Paddy Blair Mayne wasn't included for Down... Would give Matty a run.... The greatest forward the Springboks had played against up until the war... Ditto the Germans and Italians during it... Could you imagine him in the UR squad today? God help anyone that’d dial it in. I’d back him to d...

Re: Harlequins v Ulster Sat Jan 20 1pm KO TNT Sports 2
I wouldn’t trust this squad of putting 2 quality performances together, nevermind 4. A big pack, a 10 with a decent boot, and 2 solid centres are enough to beat this squad most times especially away from home, and that is what you get against the French. If we made the last 4 I’d be amazed.

Re: Dan’s Not the Man.
I’d happily take a saffer style character led coaching tkt: I’d doubt they’d be an issue around basic d, set piece and breakdown. I’d also imagine there would be a direct honesty around poor standards. The aim would be simple: a raise in standards, and young player development. No mediocre recontrac...

Re: Dan’s Not the Man.
Cunningham is the man behind it. Then Bryn has had his day. If we can’t get basic recruitment/retention right of our coaching, then it’s ever bit as damaging as poor player recruitment and recontracting. There’s enough people out there with rugby experience and contract law quals to say maybe time ...

Re: Dan’s Not the Man.
Purely re coaching, and it Goes far deeper than that! Basic Skills have regressed, attack poor, and even more so defence has been nothing short of disgraceful. Worryingly set piece/breakdown is currently in bits. The coaching tkt frankly is way out of their league. Contracting has been poor…..is thi...

Re: Reset button required?
You’d imagine Petrie will be sniffing around the SRU job with Dodson leaving. I can’t see Payne coming back while DMcF is top dog. For me there is too much recontracting of poor performers, and too much jobs for the boys. There’s no ruthless edge to any of it, no jeopardy. I’d hope DH would be looki...

Re: Petries Answering Questions
I actually thought it was very interesting he was even mentioning the playing style and selection of squads, which is as a CEO nothing to do with his role/responsibility. That said, IF he is telling the truth (clearly DMcF has to be onboard with this as head coach), and we start playing our young f...

Re: Ulster vs Stade Toulousain 13/01/24 TNT Sports
Sorry don’t like Dans comments, admittedly only reading, not hearing them. Toulouse are a quality outfit, but so were Toulouse, LAR, R92, Clermont, Montpellier, Leicester, etc etc all sides I’ve seen UR beat in the Euro Cup over the yrs at Ravenhill. Tonight was a poor show, I’ll explain why: Toulou...

Re: Ulster vs Stade Toulousain 13/01/24 TNT Sports
Serious question:
Is there a chance of the pitch being frozen again this weekend? I’ll be mightily cheesed off, as I’m flying back over for the game.
As an aside what have UR got in place to avoid this scenario, now they’ve gone down the plastic pitch route?

Re: Leinster v Ulster Mon Jan 1 5:15pm KO
Re Sheridan…is he still studying at uni in Dublin, maybe exams are coming up which could explain absence. I’m a massive fan of his, he’s abrasive, and I love that, especially when frankly there’s been times players have gone missing against big packs. You want that kind of attitude and player around...

Re: Ulster v Connacht
Re general Poor backline in attack The backline post first phase is static, very flat, and several things are noticeable. Flannery crabs across the pitch pre pass, backline follows at time close to a 45 angle….it’s that bad. Receiving the ball at a standing start, wingers wide static and totally tur...

Re: Ulster v Connacht
A decidedly mediocre performance, and zero surprise. It definitely falls into the category of take the pts/win, and move on. The double miss by Balacoune and Addison for the Connacht try was very poor especially being so close to the touch line. However there were elements i did like: the pop passin...

Nothing will happen til end of season earliest.
I do think Humphries will hold UR to account, but that is 6/18mths away.
