Re: Exeter vs Ulster Friendly - 14/09/24 Sandy Park

I think he was in the ulster under age sides as a winger? Probably says more about our talent identification from a few years ago. Hopefully thats all been sorted now and this doesn't happen again ("nervously touching wood"). Hoepfully he's a cooney esque player who can be tempted home and...

Re: Any word on the Academy?

Can't say too much as I didn't see the game, but for a bit of perspective there were 7 players on the Ulster bench who haven't even played a senior game of rugby and a couple in the starting team who haven't even played an AIL match. This was billed as a development team not an A side. That scottish...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Interesting start to proceedings this season Ulster league been a mixed bag with Dungannon the surprise package. Worry for Ballymena whose young squad might not cope this season. Ballyclare will go up from 2c comfortably imo. In Q1 despite losing some big players Ballymoney continue to impress with...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Did queens not involve several ulster contracted players? judging by the photos available online I thought I could see McFarlane and Kenny at least The junior sides have certainly narrowed the gap over the last three years. Who have armagh brought in? normally they develop their own. It has gotten t...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Queens conceded lots of points against ballyclare. Altough they are now AIL should the Ulster Championship be exteneded and include some of the top "Junior" club sides, cooke, enniskillen and the such. More games against a higher leve opposition could only benefit them in the long run and ...

Re: Any word on the Academy?

I have always believed that rugby has failed to follow the GAA model. We should at branch level play rugby on a County level. There is no reason we could not have an Ulster championship at say under 16 or 18 level on a county level. Then we could develop it I know some counties might struggle but i...

Re: Squad depth 2024/25

would there be merit in the URC entering other teams in the anglowelsh cup? reserve sides from each province, talking a minimum 3 additional games a season against reserve premiership and championship sides Would allow a better chance for fringe players to showcase their talent and find the next &qu...

Re: Any word on the Academy?

The hard work is done prior to reaching Ulster u18s though. The depth of quality of players produced by Blackrock college each year is phenomenal. If Ulster rugby had a school producing that amount of talent annually, we’d be well set. To achieve similar results, pay the coaches the same as those a...

Re: Any word on the Academy?

Any word on the sub academy? Reading from the above along with a couple who have been long term injured. We’ll have potentially a god few options going forward. But was all the Ulster development coaches attention put specifically onto the back row positions of not what about the tight 5 and half ba...
