Re: ULSTER MOTM vs Clermont

If John Cooney isnt Irelands starting 9 for the 6 nations Farrell should be shot. Think in Coetzee SA have their next Vermeulen. Likewise Jordi Murphy could be the next Irish Jordi Murphy. Toss up between the 3 of them for mom though want to give a special mention to Herrings darts and the most pass...

Re: Ulster v Clermont

Strange one. Would have taken the result beforehand and to control the game and defend in such an organised fashion were both real positives. Execution should have been better but given conditions a 4 try BP would have been a tall order. Letting them get a losing BP when all they showed was a poten...

Re: Japan RWC

South Africas path to the final was much easier given that they only had to beat Japan and a threadbare Welsh side. Not much emotional or physical energy was spent en route so they could empty the tank in the final. England having to beat the 4 championship sides in a row was always going to be a ta...

Re: In Defence of Schmidt, Ireland's RWC and where to now?

Just want to say this a fantastic thread best I have seen on here. I've not seen anything better in the media. Very shocking that BOD and POC never saw impending wc failure coming but I generally think the worst pundits are the recently retired ones. The lieutenants were never going to throw their g...

Re: L.I.

Was at the Sale game and LI got a physical lesson from Sale on Saturday.
Big reality check from the Wasps game as they lost virtually all the collision areas.
Fortunately they have 11 players to come in that can help bridge the step up.

Re: In Defence of Schmidt, Ireland's RWC and where to now?

Ireland have got to understand how world cup cycles work as the other sides do. Schmidt failed not once but twice at world cups and that's not coincidence. Eddie Jones after he won the slam in his first year rightly predicted a 3rd year slump for England as part of the cycle. He had been a part of s...

Re: Japan RWC

I won’t defend Kearney my point is changes on the wing are meaningless when they never get the ball . Defensively Earls has always been a liability but is still one of the fastest players in an Irish jersey . Where new faces are needed are the engine room back row and half back if those 5 players b...

Re: Japan RWC

Frank the way the half backs have played what difference would Conway or Lamour have made . All too slow all too predictable all badly executed To be fair rum a lot. Young people invigorate any squad. Not just that but new people. Larmour and Conway are amazing talents. They should have been develo...

Re: L.I.

Great game today as LI beat Wasps away despite nearly chucking a 13 point lead away.
Wasps weren't mugs and had a couple of All Blacks playing for them.
Massive victory LI look a very committed squad and with some additional stars still to come in the early signs look positive.

Re: Japan RWC

I would be interested to see how an Ireland team picked on form would actually differ from the team that went out against the ABs. This was after all the number one team in the world according to the somewhat bewildering system used to decide this. Stockdale was starved of any ball and yet seemingl...

Re: Japan RWC

BOD and POC 2 of the worst pundits. Utterly delusional and never saw this coming. A side that did not evolve it's squad or tactics for 2 years. Tossing players aside didn't help. The inevitable failure played out. The only thing I didn't factor in was that Scotland are even worse. Ireland were an ab...

Re: Japan RWC

Hopefully the whole sordid set up unravels in the face of an All Blacks power and skill game.
It should do but even the worst teams have a big game in them.
That's the worry.

Re: Japan RWC

Superb by Japan it's just a pity that their reward wasn't any team other than SA or NZ who I would fancy them to beat. The disparity between Scotland and South Africa is huge but all the qf games are great match ups worth watching for various reasons. I just hope Ireland don't get the glorious failu...

Re: Japan RWC

The Russian 7 is some player. Tough as teak but I suppose if you grow up in Dagestan you are going to be. Bit like those tough Dublin suburbs. Think Ireland don't look hungry enough. Possibly with the overall exception of Conway who has bern excellent and gives it all every time he sticks on the shi...

Re: Japan RWC

There seem to be two Irelands. One plays vith vigour, flair and accuracy. That was the one that started this morning. Then the other Ireland took over, the one. that can be bullied and goes into a shell and plays by numbers. Like everyone else, I guess we'll win both remaining games. A third win ag...
