Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Adding to Belfast clubs Malone and Harlequins demise we have CIYMS dropping a league with Grosvenor struggling, Civil Service saved by Newrys sad demise. PSNI and holywood struggling in 3 also. Cooke and Academy holding up well. Expect Academy to push on next year. Queens maintain after a hard year,...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

AIL rugby on pitch in good shape in parts. AIL review by IRFU is to be done over coming season. Probably about time and will most likely see reduction in league numbers. Hughes on the move again, cheaper option and certainly better value than Andress who seems to have had another poor season coachin...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Queens deserved their win, haven’t seen Banbridge play for a few seasons now and they were not what I expected. Thought it would be a tough game for Queens today but they absolutely romped it with room to spare. Good to see Hugh at the game.

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Big weekend coming up for a few Ulster clubs, obviously.

Anyone know, including Ulster, what happens to the academy players club allocation next season should Queens be relegated from 1B to 2A?

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Definitely lots of untapped talent out there for sure!! We need as many Ulster clubs in good health and a club like CIYMS with great location and people involved will hopefully rouse itself from its current slumber and come back to higher echelons once more. Is john Andress still coaching next year?...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Jim Keith is still alive and well, happy to report. Ophir in Model. Winners of schools cup in 71 but sadly after a brief run have fallen away. Ophir have now, with cooperation from Model, reignited rugby. Ship sailed on that one up the hill or rather now along the coast to Jordanstown. Few ex model ...

Re: AIL Energia Leage Rugby/Ulster League

Instonians club seem to be growing their youth set up over the last few years and actually added a 4th xv. Speaking with one of their community officers he was telling me they now have over 100 kids in the Youth section (if you include u12s which currently sit within the mini sections with Ulster). ...

Re: Where does the future lie?

Look at Leinster Model… bang for buck that it would appear we are not able/willing to commit. GAA ramping up to hold on, that is a pipe dream. What we may get from GAA is the front row not suited to the game, these guys will have a good skill set and could be worth pursuing.

Re: Where does the future lie?

Lots of schools outside of top schools have indeed switched off and do not play 1st xv v 1st xv. Indeed it filters down to lower teams with A teams playing B/C teams. The top schools are still underfunded. Many posts have been comparing Dublin schools. Top schools in Dublin have parents paying 3-4K ...
