Re: Shocking Calls
SA v Lions 2009, many decisions in the tests. In the second Schalk Burger should have seen a straight red for a gouge. There was also a farcical incident between the TMO, who I think was French and could barely speak English, and the ref who didn't speak French. What should have been a 5m scrum to t...

...Possibly our best ever certainly from an attacking view point... Chipper was a very good inter-pro & Wilkie could be decent on his day but there have been some turkeys. Beat me to it Baggy, maybe it's the rose tinted glasses looking back at my youth but I remember both Wilkinson and Rainey a...

The clear strike to John Barclay's nose at matchclock 63.35........: That x-ray vision to see straight through your replacement scrum-half must be really useful. There was a swinging arm from Roger, no view of the impact. It could have gone either way. Incidentally, Roger also approached Barclay wh...

Re: Who was your MOTM for ULSTER vs Treviso?
It was a systemic team and leadership failure where we simply stopped playing rugby, started kicking the ball and standing back a yard in defence. There was nobody cracking heads together or being in any way demonstrative in terms of passion. The air was let out of the tyres and we didn't have a pu...

Re: Rugby is a simple game
Recently I was reminded on the first 60 minutes Ireland played against New Zealand in 2001. A masterpiece in how to play rugby. Followed swiftly by 20 minutes from New Zealand that reaffirmed how to play rugby. That, and the loss to England in 2003 were the two best games of rugby I saw in Landsdow...

Also happens in Leinster - I took a youth side I coached over to play in Dublin a few years ago Stu, define a few years ago? As after the court case 3/4 years ago this has stop in Leinster. Kofi, I stand corrected. What, in my head when I wrote the post was around three years ago, when I've sat dow...

... because their schools actively discourage them by threatening them with a ban - unlike Leinster and Munster. Also happens in Leinster - I took a youth side I coached over to play in Dublin a few years ago and our host's coach was going through a protracted battle with his son's school (can't re...

Re: question... for everyone...
I think the point about Schmidt as Ireland coach is he simply doesn't have the time to focus on ALL the basics skills with the players he has, so will concentrate on a few, and those seem to be mainly related to defence and the break down. With Leinster, he had a lot more time with the players so c...

Re: question... for everyone...
Due to its low risk and precise nature it is very hard to counteract. Genuine question, and I may have misunderstood the inference above, but is it fair to Leinster under Schmitd to box them as low risk? The focus on doing the basics to an exceptionally high level means that the emphasis moves onto...

Re: question... for everyone...
Wee pee tap penalty ( very creative ) no support tackled turn over or penalty for holding on . This is part of our problem, when the whistle goes most of the team switch off rather than be looking for opportunities. It seems that we're constantly looking for opportunities to slow the game down, I b...

Re: Roger Wilson signs new two-year contract with Ulster
I don't think anyone is suggesting Williams would get a game for Ireland however come 2015 after three years continuous employment by UR he is technically Irish qualified which frees up a space in our squad to sign a non irish qualified back row. That is if his junior AB caps do not disqualify him?...

I'd say he's an 8 in the Michael Owen mould - good ball player but poor carrier so needs big ball carriers around him.Russ wrote:He is an 8 in the Heaslip mould
