Maps and directions
Getting There Driving From the M3: With Twickenham Rugby Stadium on your left, Quins' ground is on the right. U-turn at the RFU roundabout. Enter the Stoop via Langhorn Drive, 450 yards on your left. From the M4: Continue for 2 miles. With Twickenham Rugby Stadium on your left, Quins' ground is on the right. U-turn at the RFU roundabout. Enter the Stoop via Langhorn Drive, 450 yards on your left. Train The best way to Twickenham using public transport is the South West Trains service from London Waterloo. A Standard Day Return from Waterloo costs approximately £7.50. There are about 6 trains an hour from Waterloo to Twickenham. The fast service takes about 20 minutes and calls at Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Putney, Richmond then Twickenham. Slower services take between 30-45 minutes with more stops. Train times are available from www.nationalrail.co.uk London Underground / London Overground Twickenham doesn’t have a tube station so you need to get to a station where you can get the South West Trains service. Options are: Bus Bus number 267 runs between Hammersmith and Fulwell Garage, calling at Stamford Brook, Turnham Green, Kew Bridge, Brentford, Isleworth and Twickenham. Bus number 281 runs between Hounslow and Tolworth, visiting Whitton, Twickenham, Fulwell, Teddington, Hampton Wick, Kingston and Surbiton. Both services stop within easy reach of the ground. Taxi A taxi from Central London to Twickenham should cost approximately £30 depending on traffic. Parking There is pay parking at the Rosebine car park off the A316 beside The Stoop. Coming from the airport? Heathrow: despite being the closest airport, public transport connections from the airport to Twickenham are not great. The travel planner on the Transport for London website (www.tfl.gov.uk) recommends taking the Piccadilly line tube to Hounslow East then walking to Hounslow Bus station and taking the 281 bus to Twickenham, however I haven’t done this myself to vouch for the route. TfL says it should take about 35 mins. Alternatively, you can take the Piccadilly line to Hammersmith, change for the District line to Richmond, then get the train to Twickenham. A taxi from Heathrow to Twickenham should be about £30 depending on traffic. Luton: Shuttle bus to Luton Airport Parkway then train into London. Rather than heading all the way into London, it will be quicker to get off at West Hampstead Thameslink, then change stations to West Hampstead London Overground and get the Richmond train where you can change for Twickenham. Gatwick: train to Clapham Junction then change for a train to Twickenham. This is faster than heading all the way in to London Victoria. Stansted: train to Liverpool Street then tube to London Waterloo for a train to Twickenham. Drink The Cabbage Patch and Rugby Tavern are situated beside Twickenham station and are popular for a drink before heading on to the game.
The Stoop has a very large bar in the East Stand and this is the best place to keep on drinking up to (and after...) the start of the game. Food The Stoop has a selection of burger and pastie vans. I can’t really recommend anywhere in particular in the centre of Twickenham - there seems to be the usual selection of chain restaurants. There is a much wider selection of places to eat in nearby Richmond. Accommodation There is a huge variety of accommodation in London so difficult to recommend anywhere in particular however here are some options if you want to stay in and around Twickenham: Slightly closer in to London, some options are: www.chiswickhotellondon.co.uk Irish owned hotel group. Popular place for rugby teams to stay before games at Twickenham - England, Leicester and Wasps have all stayed there. www.highroadhouse.co.uk the place to spot minor celebrities and meeja types The best deals I've found available so far are with Travelodge hotels: The best current price for a double or family room is £49.00 |
