Sometimes proving what it is NOT is a great aid to fault finding in many things. It narrows down the possibilities - that was my thinking.
Can the laptop display be sent to a monitor would be a similar low tech initial approach.
Have you tried Internet Explorer would be another thought.

apparently there was a bug in FF 3.6.5 which has been fixed in later versions. I have 3.6.3 and I can't replicate it. The latest (stable) version is 3.6.8, although there are beta release for version 4
