For those in the wilderness west of Belfast an MPEG4 seems to be essential, there is also another issue about which way to point your aerial, for example ,my old mums house in Dungannon gets a better signal from Belfast than Brougher, yet all the other houses in her row point to Brougher, apparently some people can only get one channel as whatever way they point the aerial they are getting feedback from the other transmitter allowing them to have only one channel, signals especially from Belfast are supposed to get stronger which may or may not cause problems if you have a booster, also putting an amplifier on your equipment may increase the radiowave noise? on your telly,eh I only found this info out when home recently and was being bombarded by info from a local engineer trying to sort out out freeview for my mother,3 hours he spent and will be coming back on the 25th october to reset her channels which apparently is essential.I should add he is not a rip off merchant and was getting bombarded with messages from other engineers to sort their problems out.

My wee DVB-T stick in my 'puter won't lock up Divis at my house (the one I own), which has clear line of sight to the TX site. However, using the same antenna, it works perfectly at the house I live in, from which Divis is "over there somewhere"...

I am old and dislike change.

Could be the signal is heading straight over the top and you are in the blind spot, I know some way up in the top houses in North Belfast and their tv reception is so crap they are all on either Virgin or Sky.

Update - well we now have one working telly (our Virgin package) in the main room and 3 non working tellies located around the house. Watched the one in the kitchen lose the channels - Channel 5 bless it was the last to go off air about 12.30am i think . Plan to listen to more radio in both kitchen and bedrooms for a few weeks until we work out what to do but if anyone gets a free box thingie from some old relative who doesnt need it then please send me a PM.
