Unlocking Codes

Does anyone know how do use unlocking codes when you have got one it says to put in a restriction code and i have got one but you cannot put in a p or w it only allows you to use hash and ther numbers on the key pad.

Press * 3 times without a pause for a P
Press * 4 times without a pause for a W

This is on Nokia handsets anyway, hope it helps?
