I have wondered is it the choice of colour or font that is contrbuting to this.

OK and you may say I lied.I will post no further on the subject.
BUT
I moved over from IE7 to Firefox this evening and i now find that bolding has been restored to a recognisable level on my screen.
Nothing wrong with my eyes.
Nothingwrong with my screen.
Nothing wrong with my setup.
Something wrong somewhere - I agree.
What? - I have no idea.
Still lost the videos though.
