Afoa and Payne both did 80 minutes against the Rebels (40-23). Payne (at 13) scoring the penaultimate try to take the Blues clear.

Canes 11 Blues 17
AFAIK Afoa and Payne 80' each in a greasey, wet Wellington (yeh, I know)

Looks like Payne was saved by his winger on one occassion when he wasn't at home to the chip through. He also knocked on at the goal line, but I think that was more a good tackle by Gear.

Blues were lucky the Canes couldn't hold on to the ball

Another 90' each.

Payne wearing 15 but playing centre. Couple of good tackles, had a hand in a well worked try. Got caught on his line with no support and conceded the try (little choice TBH).

Afoa carried a fair amount of ball, but little yardage. Put in some good tackles. Blues Scrum was under pressure (although mostly on the other side). Thankfully not involved in the ccok-up where the blues forwards rucked over a tackle and left the ball lying with nobody playing scrumhalf.

Thought Afoa was the go to man in the forwards, and very much a marked man by the opposition. They had two on him every time and they needed to tbh.

Will be good to have another big carrier in the pack. If we can get 1F, P3 and Afoa on the pitch at once holes will be punched!

Yes - he was well covered, hence the lack of yardage, but he did supply good quality ball. A choice of Afoa and Best as go-to men with either the back-row guys working off them or nice clean, fast ball for Pienaar. I certainly won't care that Afoa isn't mking the yard himself.
