my ole team didnt do that bad lost 24-15 to quick belvo team should have been a home win but a hatrick from belvo 15 put them to bed. missed mccauley at 13. also mcb cancelling match againt wallace the word through the grapevine is because they didnt have there 4 ireland players. can four players win a cup?

I have just came across another (don't know school yet) player who became professional in England but was associated with Ulster.

He is joined at half-back by Laing, a choice forced on selectors by the unavailability David Humphreys, who, along with Jonathan Bell, Jeremy Davidson, Paddy Johns, Liam Mooney, and Allen Clarke, is contracted with English clubs in the Courage League.

Heard Wallace postponed the game Instonian due to Transfer Test going on in School grounds.

How long is a piece of string?

Easy peasy cables! A quick google revealed that Liam Mooney used to play for Bristol and before that, London Irish. I dug out an old program I had for a London Irish game and it had his biography. Liam Mooney was a prop, born in Dublin, representative honours for Ireland students, U21 and exiles. So not English but no obvious Ulster connection. However London Irish at that time actually played in London and had Irish players - also playing for them were Mark McCall, David Humphreys, Justin Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Davidson and Kieran Dawson. It could have been that as an exile, he could still get selected for Ulster even though he wasn't from Ulster. I'm not aware there was a birth qualification!

I think that may well have been possible.

I dug out the HC match programme v Harlequins 16 Oct 1996 (1996/7 season) and I quote:-

David Humphreys - London Irish
Jeremy Davidson - London Irish
Paddy Johns - Saracens

They also played in the earlier away game in Perth against Caledonia BUT not in the Interpros that season.

London Irish (but not Sarries) were in European Competition that season (CC) but still released DH and JD for Ulster.

Clarke and Bell were in the CC with Northampton that season and did not play for us.
Mooney was in the CC with LI and did not play for us.

i heard wallace offered a later KO but mcb cried off, i also like the fact that the side that mcb fielded against castleknock (a match they lost) was called a "MCB Select XV" due to one or 2 representative players missing. far too much emphasis from wells on a unbeaten season i think. let them mature from their mistakes no?

I think everyone would agree with that. It only puts pressure on a team at the end of the season when it comes to the Cup and can stifle its playing style a la MCB last year who with those backs should have been throwing the ball about an awful lot more than they did.
