Van duh! Merwe, solid if unspectacular, great lineouts which led to massive rolling mauls, gets my vote.
honourable mentions for Ross, Reidy and glassboy
Payne to play 13 for Leinster or 15 for Ulster

Solid but unspectacular!?
All I can say is you must have been at the game and if you were, watch it again on the box and keep your eye on him.

Going to have to put my foot down here.
VDMs performance was absolutely immense.
He carried, tackled, worked for the entire 80 minutes and in my view was the difference between the sides.
Oh and he scored.

He was alert to everything and with 2 points in it and 5 odd minutes to go, he made a brilliant tackle on their 9 who had spotted a gap on the blind side with no one at home.
That saved the game for us.

The biggest compliment I could give him is that Muller could not have done any better.
Needed him tonight and the big man delivered. :salut:

Whenever a forward is pointed out for being immense, you know he's done a lot and that's certainly the case with Franco. Brilliant performance.

Mentions for the front row, Ross and Reidy, McCloskey and Cave.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Bazzaj is spot on, Franco by a country mile, the try saving tackle at the end won us the game, captain in all but name.

Franco, Darren and Reidy decent performances, Franco most so.

PJ seems to have taken the break to do some more gain-line stuff; didn't quite work out - a lot of his pop passes out the back door, having attacked the line, were just not quite flat enough - but encouraging. Until he got broken!

In terrible conditions I ought VDM was excellent. I also thought Reidy and Ross were good in the forwards as was Herbst - a strong man. Cave with his two tries was excellent, but it was a hard-fought win all round. All credit to the pack.

Franco was it for me. Credit to the front row also. Also Warwick and D Fitz who picked up were Herbst and Black left off. If we can keep those guys fit this season the scrum could be very solid.
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Forgot about that tackle, and I think you misunderstand solid but unspectacular. He's not a spectacular player, he's a grafter, and that's required from him. Hendo and Tuohy are spectacular, they make the big runs, and the "showy" moments. I voted for Franco, because he was the best player on the field.

Franco was Ulster's best player. Their out half was motm.

Furrymuff Matt, it just comes down to what you describe as being spectacular I think.
