Scarlets - Round 16

Post by Neill_M »

Back home again on Fri night. A BP win will take us top for at least a day. The other teams in the top 4 playing each Ospreys v Leinster and Munster v Glasgow. Reckon the team could be something like:

Black, Herring, Herbst, FDVM, Stevenson, Wilson, Ross, Williams, Pienaar, Humph, Gilroy, Marshall, Cave, Allen, Ludik

Warwick, Andrew, Ross, McComb, Boys, Marshall, ??, Nelson.

McCloskey will probably be banned. Diack may not be released by Ireland as he could be backrow cover. Assuming O'Connor is still injured and heard that McComish injured his hand on Fri night??

Losing Hendo and McCloskey is going to weaken the side that played Edinburgh (no brad pitt sherlock). I'd like to see Boys play because we are badly missing an openside. It's a gamble of course. Perhaps the halftime feature on bbc ni is the nail in the coffin for him.

As well as openside, other areas of concern are 2nd row and 10.

O'Connor won't be available for some weeks yet and then limited game time. Big Dan is almost there.

Business end of the season, no unnecessary changes unless they will improve the team, if MaCoooooooooooomash's Ulster career has been ended, no tears from me , Ross is who I would pick rather than Boys, simply because I suspect if Boys had shown anything to date he would probably have at least made a bench by now. Ross at least is a known known, not great not entirely crap and didn't he participate in the TBP SDC game fernenst Scaaaaaaaaalets? Maybe Tigers too from the bench?

Those suggesting iHumph should go are once more whistling feckin' Dixie whilst pishing into the wind. Why oh why would you drop him for a man of whom I can find not one single video of his play online? A man who has hit the heights of English League 4 & reserve to the back up for a relatively moderate ITM side?

iHumph is infuriatingly inconsistent but it's short memories who don't recall how well he played against Tigers in the Soupa Doupa in January. We know he can play in big games and play well, why would you go to an anonymous stranger, here as a SH tourist with an option to play rugby if the excrement contacts the extractor? Madness, so mad that anyone contemplating it must have a head full of hobby horse's shyte where their brain should be. Harumph.

That apart Scaaaaaaaaaaaalets are abominable away from home, take nothing for granted but it's one of those games "if we don't win this", but I wouldn't bank on a TBP, unless iHumph is magic on the night. >EW

Perhaps I am mad Baggy for saying I'd like to see him play but I don't feel that Clive Ross offers a compelling case to not do something mad. Boys has super rugby caps at least, Clive is an AIL player past/present/future. As you rightly say though if he was decent he would have featured. It does beg the question why UR made such a deal of his signing. I won't even mention Reidy because I seem to be his only fan.

Humph is undroppable yet needs to find some form. He will be the starting ten from now until the end of the season so dropping him would be counterproductive.

Humph is undroppable because there is, almost literally, no other option.

We will have to accept the good with the terrible that he has always offered. One can only give the rosary, a few twiddles, offer a sacrifice to ganesh or whatever other higher being one seeks solace from and hope for the best.

Agree with Baggy on iHumph ... he will give you indigestion - he will be crap - but the odd time he will be brilliant ... and can dominate a game and more importantly get our backs moving ... Stanely could take the field and look make p look like St P ....

Where I tend to query Baggy, though I understand his reasoning, is with Ross ... I have seen nothing in Ross that offers a flicker of usefulness ... esp at 7 - to me his body position is utter dung - and while McComish is in the form of his life he still specialises in clearing out peripheral debris from rucks that are having no effect on what's happening over the ball.

I'd promote Boys and hope, rather than stick on Ross and pray ...

Much as you are often right, I expect you to be wrong on this. I tend to trust Rocky on these matters.

I doubt mr, or mrs/miss, firebell will be revealing that. One of the more pointless questions when someone claims to have an inside line on an issue.

He / she didn't claim to have an inside line though did they? My question about a source is hardly pointless if there is a printed source somewhere stating this as fact.

But we all know that's unlikely.

Firebell has previous and I don't believe it's ever been a printed source. Wasn't meaning to have a go, Tis just one of my bugbears.

Criticise iHumph by all means, he deserves it all, but suggesting that he should be dropped is; as Baggy, Fleg and others suggest, entirely daft. Not only do we have no viable option, but iHumph is due a good game. The ratio usually hovers around two brainless crap to one borderline genius. IHumph was visably berating himself at Murrayfield so hopefully he will turn out on Friday night with his head on the right way around. There are likely to be gaps to exploit in the Scarlets defence and he's the man to exploit them.
