I’d say a few posts were written in the heat of the moment and a few were alcohol infused, but most of us know enough to realise we’re not gonna come close to winning anything for four/five years.
That knowledge isn’t gonna stop us bemoaning the lineoutshyte or turning off the telebox when watching turgid shyte is simply wasting your finite time. We’ll still go to Ravenspan and we’ll still gulder like rutting water buffalo in support of our team .

And amazing the number of people on this thread willing to comment without seeing the game. Pay your 9 quid per month fgs. Cost of 2 pints?
Maybe I'm alone in preferring 2 pints.
Can I come out from behind the sofa yet?

Montecassino probably
Monte Cassino can't be considered a rip roaring victory. The battles raged from mid January with the allies only taking it in the middle of May. The final assault lasted 7 days out of a campaign of 123 days. The allies also took far more casualties than the Germans.

That's the equivalent of winning a very tight match in the final 4-5 minutes and finishing with most of your best players seriously injured. Not exactly a rip-roaring victory.

Out of curiosity, what about finishing 4th in the group? Good achievement or disappointing season?

Poor effort on my part Cap.

My grandfather and his brother fought their way to Monte Castellone with the North Irish Horse. They always joked that those who fought at Monte Cassino had it easy compared to them. It was only in their latter years that they would even open up and talk about the hell that they lived through.

My father had a staring role at Monte Casino. We were watching a movie on tv about it and I asked him was in ever in an artillery barrage. 'Yes' was the reply. 'Where?' was the next question. 'There' he said pointing at the tv. 'What was it like?' I asked. 'You curl up in a ball and sh1t yourself' was his reply. Says it all really.

Probably never a truer sentence spake.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

Once asked a great uncle who was there what it was like. He didn't say anything he just opened his mouth to talk then started to cry. Brutal. Never asked him again.
