Ulster Rugby and the DUP

Post by Jackie Brown »

So was having a chuckle at the usual DUP rhetoric of vote for us or themmuns get in and noticed that the DUP manifesto launch was done at our stadium!

Are we, as a team, aligning ourselves with these fecktards?

So goodbye inclusivity. Whose great idea was it to rent our stadium to launch the manifesto of a homophobic, anti-catholoc, anti woman's rights, brexit loving, right wing looney party? Someone fecked up here. Talk about alienating a large proportion of your fan base.

The Democratic Unionist Party leader said “every vote counts”.

“Some claim it does not matter which party you vote for, but you can be absolutely certain that it would be heralded as a massive success for republicans and a massive defeat for unionism if unionism was to be split and republicans were to have a massive win, and use the election results to strengthen their demand for a border poll,” she added.

Mrs Foster was speaking as her party launched a 40-page manifesto for the local elections on May 2.

Many of her party’s candidates attended the official launch event at Kingspan Stadium in east Belfast.

Sinn Fein used it last month for same purpose.

Seriously, Neill? This is a dreadful idea. One thing Slogan got right was to purposely have no flegs and no politics at Ravenhill. Doesn't matter which party it is, they shouldn't be able to bring the politics of this sorry place (or the sorry politics of this place) into the home of Ulster rugby, IMO.

If Sinn From used it then that shows there is an ingrained lack of wit.

Two wrongs don't make a right, I'm genuinely torn between being disgusted and disappointed. What sort of amateurs are running the ship? I thought we had seen the last of this lack of professionalism when Slogan left.

I'm going to write a letter.

Can they refuse if the venue is available for public hire?

If they did, would we be having gay cake court case part deux?

Suspect (hope) it was part of the deal that Ulster Rugby, IRFU, Kingspan etc do not endorse anything to do with either event, or indeed any event they allow the stadium to be used for.

I get that there is discomfort at least over this, but just hope they got a decent penny or three for the use thereof. May as well be in Ulster's coffers as some hotel or whatever.
I'm not arguing -

No. You can't offer a public service and then select who you do business with. That would be discrimination.

Is it not different though in that the gay cake row was about discrimination because LGBT issues aren't political (though some think it is)? This is purely political.

If you said "no political parties", would that not mean you are not discriminating (as you are treating all the same?)

Yeah, as a private business they can decide who they do business with. Look at Facebook, YouTube etal removing users from their platforms. I don't think the DUP are a protected class, yet

People should stop getting offended, perhaps

There is clearly no alliances being formed anywhere, they have given the premises to both DUP and SF, if anything it will improve cross-community relations and the stigma UR has within certain sections of the community

It may also be noted only one of our current coaching team is from NI so there is no major affiliations there and our CEO is a Scot

It is also worth noting that perhaps the money is needed, so why not rent it out to whoever there is. Any additional revenue is good, I am sure

In a day where an all time great of not just Ulster and Irish rugby retires, but rugby in general, and all you lot can do is discuss the outrage you feel towards a political party and a bank...

Ravenhill should be a politically neutral space. Let's face a simple set of facts. Two of our players were in effect banned for life on the basis of 'political' interference by a bunch of lying thieves in the Bank of Ireland, a set of screeching 'feminists' with huge chips on their shoulders, a useless pile of blood and organs in the shape of a bloated cretin masquerading as a CEO and a coterie of cowards and craven bigots in Dublin.

If making hideous and tasteless privately encrypted messages gets you binned by FIRFU then surely it is self evident that a bunch of murdering, child raping, drug dealing bombers aka Sinn Fein and and almost as equally odious, bigot driven, self-serving, self-aggrandising, brainless, phuckwits in the shape of a shameless political party laughingly called the DUP should never be allowed to soil and besmirch Ravenhill.

Facebook can deny access to those who violate their terms and conditions. I doubt UR would have thought about denying political parties access to their conference facilities. Probably too divisive for our CEO.

I don't think anyone is suggesting bias towards themmuns or usuns. As jackthelad says, UR (and sport in general) should be free from political interference.

S'pose UR want to stay on good terms with their so called political masters.

Unfortunate that they can't have their launches in the Felons or Ballygobackwards Orange Hall but hey, if the Duppers and the Sinners both want to be associated with Ravers it must be some kind of positive?
