No Rooster I watch a game win or lose and in losing - try to work out why .

The previous game in Glasgow the referee was so bad in the decision he made it was less obvious .

Lacey failed to use the whistle so the defeat the manner of Glasgow play was easier to identify — basically it is the first player to ruck doesn’t join it but takes the first opposition player trying to join ruck out — playing the man and not the ball — playing a player without the ball is an infringement — forming a ruck isn’t - but their first up is not forming a ruck .

I was joking previously, yes you have got it spot on, and it will be interesting to see how it goes next week with Leinster also doing the same.
They keep changing laws a bit but if they simply enforced those already there it would have a better effect. Offside and forward passing also seems optional to enforce, Glasgows final try last night was a classic, ball passed a meter behind a white line and caught a meter in front of it was easy to see it was forward, this talk of forward momentum is rubbish, a ball that goes forward is passed forward.

I signed off prematurely for the Summer but on reflection want to throw on my tuppencehapeny’s worth on the season:

Great strides taken, seems like we have the right management and coaching team, the recruitment for next season looks smart.

The performance at the Aviva was inspiring, never have a I been so proud in defeat.

Signs that the fans are starting to return, mind you £310 for an ST for max 14 games, of which I’ll only ever get to 7/8, is pricey.

However we need to put context some on this, we lost narrowly by a score in the same location to the same team at the same stage 4 years ago, this time we were eviserated, on the day of our leader’s last ever game for the province, the backs looked knackered, a real schools out look about it, even a few laughs seen in the tunnel at the end, left a real bad taste in the mouth. Crazy when you think that at least a couple of the team will probably have now missed out on Japan because of that, what was going on in their heads after two weeks preparation, did anyone seriously ever think anything other than that Glasgow would come out pumped and primed???

Always the optimist and remembering that this is really just a game, pre-season will now be based on more of a reality, and we’ll all (fans and players alike) be the better for that!

Invariably, a team is never as bad as it’s supposed to be, nor as good.

Shipping 198 points in travelling to the four best teams we’ve played is all the context that is needed, notwithstanding plenty of positives.

McGrath and Carter are likely to improve the pack and having Gilroy and Addison around again will be handy, although that still leaves us short of a top notch 10 and another back row.

Its been a while since I posted but visit the forum every day. Here's my end of season thoughts for what they're worth.

Agree that the season has been better than I feared at the start but can't shake the feeling that we're not really progressing. Friday night's performance was really poor. Given that it was Rory's and DC's last game there seemed a lack of intensity and poor preparation for the occasion. We won the toss and yet chose to play into the wind first half?? We invited Glasgow onto us from the start? I would have thought it would have been better to take the game to Glasgow and try and quieten down their crowd and put a bit of doubt into their heads. Instead we let them score after 3 minutes and again quickly afterwards. The game was near done at that time and the rest is history.

Talk here is how McFarland has improved things and how Jirrid is a great defence coach. However we have shipped a lot of points this year and some team selections have been baffling. For example why was Stockdale moved to the wing with Lowry at full back when Baacoune pulled out? Surely if the original decision was to play Stockdale at FB then Lyttle or Kernohan should have played on the wing and Lowry left on the bench.

Anyhow, end of terms report:
Front Row - Good- improvement of EOS and Kane. Bad - Rory retiring, not sure if Herring is good enough to be our first choice hooker. Hopes- McBurney to develop quickly?
Second Row - Good- Treadwell has improved. Bad - our lineout stinks. Hopes - Carter will be an enforcer and leader?
Back row - Good - Marcel & Nordi look good. Timoney as well. Bad - lack of turnovers and lineout options. Hopes - another signing (unlikely)
Scrum Half - Good-Shanahan has improved. Bad - Ireland have wrecked Cooney. Hopes - see back row hopes.
Out Half - Good - hard to think of any! Bad - Burns is not good enough. Hopes - Obvious=bring back Paddy.
Centres - Good - big Stu has played well. Bad - as committed as he is Luke hinders fluent back play with his poor passing skills. Hopes - Dan finds a couple of good combinations to give us options.
Back 3- Good - Young wingers have looked good. Bad - Injuries and strange selections at times. Hopes - again settled combinations to give us consistent options.

Well thats it folks. My wisdom has been shared lol.

Expectations for next year would see us stagnate as a team who will win at home and will have the occasional storming performance. But again likely to be trophy less. Hopes would be that the Ulster spirit of old would return where we can be proud of who we are and what we represent. That we get a bit of grit back into the side and into the organisation and stop dancing to our sponsor's tunes. But hey I'll not hold my breath.

Rooster there are at least 2forward passes in the passage of play before the first score including the final pass to the wing .

About 10th of Hastings passes are forward .

But playing at home is a a major factor for Glasgow — its always difficult for referees .

Glasgow press the luck button hard playing the margins .

That said they play their first phase set moves well .

Glasgow took their chances and rightly won the game - they played the ref better. Not once did he call them for offside when they clearly were all night long - that's home advantage for you - fairly sure the crowd wouldn't have been helping to point it out.

And ref got three forward pass calls wrong - 2 of theirs that led to scores and then called us back when we were through - a potential 21 point swing.

They'd still have won even if these calls had gone the right way, but don't think the score was a fair reflection of where we're at.

The more you watch the game the more one sided the refereeing looks .

Glasgow got away with everything at the breakdown on one occasion the Glasgow player was on the Ulster side of the ruck pulling an Ulsterman out .

Nothing like being down 7 points in 3 minutes when within the series of phases leading to the try there are 2 forward passes including the last .

Granted the last was not a glaring example but the pass was caught in front of the point of delivery .
