Payne has represented Ulster on 64 occasions since his debut against the Cardiff Blues in September 2011 and has scored 14 tries for his adopted province.

The 30-year old made his international debut against the Springboks in the 2014 November Test series and has gone on to amass 12 caps since then and has also scored two tries in that time.

“I am very happy to have signed a two year Irish contract to remain with Ulster Rugby,” Payne said on his decision to remain with Ulster.

“It has been an honour for me to not only pull on the Ulster jersey but to represent Ireland. There is plenty for us to achieve at Ulster and with Ireland.”

Ulster’s Director of Rugby, Les Kiss, also expressed his happiness at Payne’s decision to stick with his province for another two years, saying, “Jared is an incredibly astute and intelligent rugby player.

“He adds experience and calm to any backline and will continue to be an important player for Ulster for many years to come.”

The IRFU’s Performance Director David Nucifora also commented, “We are delighted to have secured Jared’s services for a further two years.

“Jared has illustrated his ability to compete at the highest level and be an important leader and decision maker for both Ireland and Ulster.”
