Any NYC regulars or exiles?

Future Mr Shammy and I will be getting hitched in New York in a few weeks, and we'll be over there when Ulster play Ospreys away on 7th May. Are we best to get a stream and watch at our hotel or do we try and find a bar that (a) shows the match and (b) is open at 10am when the match kicks off?

I've no idea so will leave that question to the experts. I just wanted to wish you well for your big day, a wedding in NYC sounds amazing, I wish we did that!

Have a wonderful day and I wish you both every happiness X.

Shammy, your question reminds me of the highlight of my honeymoon  in 1983. We'd just come back from an afternoon walk round the centre of Geneva, went to our hotel room and switched on the tv for half an hour before eating. First thing we saw was Norman Whiteside scoring the only goal in Norn Iron's 1-0 win over West Germany. Couldn't think of anything else for the rest of the week! So be careful about watching the match. If we win with a bp the rest of your honeymoon could be a washout! :D

Hope you have a fabulous wedding; fabulous honeymoon and fabulous marriage.

Congrats and best wishes Shammy. >drinks

I got married in Chicago during the inaugural RWC semi-finals. Ireland had the decency to exit at the q/f stage (shape of things to come there ) so there was no conflict of interest.

The Grafton on 1st Avenue would be your best bet :thumleft:

It does a decent breakfast also. I'd email ahead though to be sure.

Good luck with both.

I've actually watched an Ospreys v Ulster game in NYC >seeya

It was in a sports bar called Nevada Smiths that mainly shows football (soccer) but they were happy to put the Ospreys v Ulster game on. It was an interesting experience... there were a bunch of German guys watching a Bundesliga game and English guys watching QPR. I was wearing an Ulster top and was the only person watching the rugby so I got lots of questions about WTF was happening. The English guys were getting stuck into beers and had lived in the US for over 30 years even though they sounded like they had just left Shepherds Bush.

I see Nevada Smiths has changed locations since I was there so I don't know what the new place is like http://www.nevadasmiths.net

Another place I know shows rugby is a bar called Kent Ale House in Brooklyn http://www.kentalehouse.com although obviously the game needs to be on TV for them to show it and I think Pro12 in the US is shown on http://www.beinsports.com

I really like Brooklyn as I know Manhattan quite well and Brooklyn is a good contrast.
