Sarries red card
note that Justin Melck of Sarries was red-carded today for an alleged eye gouge on Tigers hooker.
All players and coaches on both teams seem agreed that while it may have looked that way, no eye-gouging actually happened, that Melck is not a dirty player and also seemed to imply that there was no intent. According to Cockerill, he simply wiped his hand across the opponents face. Mark McCall was most upset that it happened so early in the match too - 39 minutes - and his team had to play 41 minutes with 14 players. Both teams seem to want the card overturned.
I presume however that by passing his hand in the region of the face, the danger of eye gouging is present and under IRB directives, intent is not an issue .......

Re: Sarries red card
There's a certain irony in McCall's post match comments, seems he can't be consistent in the application of the laws when it comes to his own players - who knew eh??
God love them having to play the game for a whole 41 minutes with 14 players
I've nothing against McCall but I've no sympathy for his club, bummer.

Of course he should never have put himself in a position that allowed the ref to even consider carding him - no sympathy!!!!

Re: Sarries red card
For the avoidance of doubt, my previous comments were firmly with my tongue in my cheek - it would appear that the ref got this one totally wrong - imagine that ....... a ref getting a decision wrong.

There most likely wasn't enough Sarries fans there for the booing to be heard...Russ wrote:I wonder did the crowd boo and social media go into a meltdown about fans booing

Tend to agree with this, the replay on the highlights didn't make for pleasant viewing, if it's recinded then fine, but lessons to be learnt.Cap'n Grumpy wrote:Of course he should never have put himself in a position that allowed the ref to even consider carding him - no sympathy!!!!
