Since PJ and SO had been on tour with the Ireland squad I
Doubt if they had much drink taken before the day they left SA.

And considering they had two meals and their drinking was spread over 12 hours it was not a remarkable amount to consume .

If you watch that video, they talk of the dangers of binge drinking. Seriously, 24/25 drinks (according to Olding I think) isn't a remarkable amount to consume?

The had just arrived home after a flight or flights of over 12 hours duration — they were in an adrenaline high where the effect of alcohol would have been greatly reduced .

I doubt greatly if their consumption during the rugby season would be anything like that of the night in question.

The fact is the effect increases if the drink taken over a shorter period of time and not combined with food .

While I would not recommend the amount the lads consumed I suspect that many have had similar start to their holidays .

You reach a point where your not sober but not incapable or talking to God on the big white Telephone because due to tiredness the rate of consumption slows to about a pint an hour .

What anybody who drinks has to remember is that alcohol is a drug and treat it as such .

My addictive drug was nicotine not alcohol despite the odd occasional over indulgence.

There are millions of people around the world who enjoy a drink, but don't drink to excess or binge drink. Their health, judgement, decision making ability isn't impaired because they don't do it to excess. Someone has to educate the general public - who better to pay for this than the companies that financially benefit from the sale of alcohol.

They do it to make themselves look better, but if they don't, Governments/Health authorities will hound them out of business.

Who said Daigeo were the good guys? The issue is that they will be called out on the double standards of their messaging - on the one hand they are financially supporting programmes about the responsible use of alcohol, and on the other hand they are financially supporting a club that employs players who were/are binge drinkers and who would be regarded as role models to young impressionable people.

They just can't fudge that one.
