Well Said Darren Cave...
Interesting article on the BBC website today, whether it was smart or not of him to say it, I for one applaud his stance.

If your "face does not fit" what else can you do?
Well done Darren!

Well if that doesn't ensure he's kept out of the team I don't know what will!
But good on him for his honesty.

Re: Well Said Darren Cave...
Apparently he didn't say it .... or so it's said.
By Joe Schmidt that is.
Joe says Darren says he didn't say it
But did he really say it, but then tell Joe that he didn't say it
Or did he really not say it like Joe said .... he didn't
These questions and more MIGHT be answered on the next episode of SOAP
In the meantime, as someone may or may not have said, you can read what others have said (or perhaps not said) on the other thread (half-way down THIS PAGE) saying things about this.

What confuses me here is how did Dazza , have time to give a press interview between training and Coffee shop reviews. Just not on. He must have had a body double.

Dare I say, maybe he isn't good enough !
He has been up against a fair amount of high standard competition for the past few years

Joe Schmidt is a Leinster ballbag
Re: Well Said Darren Cave...
Is there any chance he could get himself a new face. Maybe do a face/off type thing with BOD or Earls or someone else ahead of him in the pecking order?
On a more serious note I would hope that he knows what he needs to do to make himself an attractive proposition for the Irish Coach. Like all players he needs to offer the coach of the day what he wants in his vision for his team. Talk of faces not fitting doesn't really help this* because it suggests either the coach is not honest, he is not actually in charge of team selection or that he is too easily influenced by others. In any of the three it is a slight on the coach, knowingly or unknowingly
He is a good player and I understand his frustration. I don't think he has been given a fair chance over the years......easy to see why he would never be considered ahead of BOD for high profile games but not so easy to see why he would not be considered at least on the same level as the likes of Earls and consequently difficult to understand why he wouldn't be allowed an opportunity to prove himself when BOD was absent, or in some of the lower profile matches.
* That was OK in the amateur days because 1) it was true and 2) Because of (1) it wouldn't matter what you did as it was already decided you'd never get a chance.

Re: Well Said Darren Cave...
Shan, I wouldnt be surprised at the amount of influence on selection that the certain incumbent has on selection proceedings. Does BOD have a disagreement with Cave? we know he doesn't have any time for Trimble, possibly something to do with Trimble being his direct rival for the Irish 13 shirt at a time? I'm not saying Cave is the equal of BOD, but if he were to take to the International game like a fish to water, there'd at least be some pressure on BODs selection.
So in essence, I dont think the article is a swipe at the coach, but a swip at two senior players. One is BOD and he's off to the BBC or wherever shortly enough, and the other is Heaslip. Now his swipe at Heaslip is fair enough in many ways, and Coughlan can feel just as aggrieved as Wilson (maybe moreso having stayed in Ireland all his career), but Heaslip is the vice captain who's just put in the game of his life against the AB's and a swipe at him probably isn't the most professional thing to do.

Re: Well Said Darren Cave...
It's Cave's misfortune to play in the same number as BOD.
He will have plenty of opportunity to impress once Brian goes in a few months.
Schmidt is a fair man but he has very high precise standards of accuracy.
It's up to Darren to reach the level. Same goes for Trimble.
I hope he does achieve but I am not sure the article helps him particularly.

He only said what we were all thinking. Schmidt even parachuted Fitzgerald in, and he's the worst Irish winger in the professional era. Remember that include guys like Anthony Horgan!
