Ireland's 45 Man RWC Squad Named

31 man squad announced at the end of August. 14 players to miss out. The ones in BOLD are those who will miss out IMO.

22 Leinster players (+ Sexton). Not bad for the 3rd best Irish side in the Pro12 :stir:

If Ryan gets back to the form he showed two season ago, he will be a sure thing. He has a hard edge that Tuohy doesn't have.

If recent form is the criteria, Gilroy should be in over Luke and Zebo.

But if it is the only criteria Trimby has a problem!

And wouldn't have Bent anywhere near the squad

The prop situation is very skewed. Leinster with 6/7 of the prop options. Bent is in there as he can in theory cover both sides. If you take 3 LHs and 3 THs then you have a 18/13 split in the squad. Would love Ulster to play Leinster in the Pro 12 while the RWC is on given how many props and players in general they will have away.

There are a lot of centre/back 3 options, versatility becomes key, i.e. Darcy is only a centre whereas Luke Fitz can in theory cover centre/wing, Earls centre/wing/FB. Gilroy can cover FB etc. Think he will pick Jones, but he shouldn't as there are plenty of players in the squad who could cover as back-up FB.

Shockingly poor squad that can produce a good 23/25 and holes all over the place.
