I think it's probably too simplistic to say violence is always wrong.
And I see it as the core rule of a functioning society
As do I, but what about fixing societies/regimes/authorities that are broken?
BURN THEM ALL DOWN
SET THE MOB ON THEM
VIOLENCE

YEH. AWESOME
So that's the alternative view to 'violence is never the answer', is it?

Either violence is the answer or it isn't
And given the rule that violence is never the answer ...

It's an uncharacteristic display of good judgement from the White House staff. I really hope someone said to Gerry: "you can go away you know". Oh how I'd laugh.........

nb. above average funnyness

It was a bit median, but if you improve your mode of delivery your rating will modalikely increase

OK, OK, OK, I never claimed to be funny.

In 1916 the good folks on the Island of Ireland were Brits like wise the Scot, the Welsh and English ,

Historically the Islands were collectively referred to as the British Isles .

But the inhabitants of the the British Isles identified themselves by country rather than as British .

The term "British " is basically a modern innovation to recognise a political identity which existed and exists combining 4 countries .

The down side is the press /media never refer to say Andy Murray as a Scot but as British but and English sportsperson is always English . That infers of course that being English is some sort of superior state of being .

Which is of course the reason why beating the English is such a joy to each and every other nationality wherever dispersed .

Gotta admit ..... snipe was funnier ......

..... and despite my previous assertion, less predictable.

British as the internationally accepted demonym/adjective of the UK and GB would make 1916 Irishmen 'British'. I would suggest that it may be a step too far to call them 'Brits' or indeed 'Britons'.

Up until the later part oif the 20th century "British" and "English" were often conflated.

In Victorian times and into the new century, English was invariably used to describe, for example, expeditions which contained prominent Irish, Welsh and Scots.

British as a term is relatively new and is probably an attempt to engender a feeling oif unity when the Empire (and Ireland) were breaking up.
