It'll be interesting what approach Schmidt takes. Does he go with Strauss to back up best due to his experience, even though he is now possibly 3rd choice at Leinster or potentially go with Tracey or scannell. Suppose with the presence of toner in the line out that may favour Tracey over scannell.
I suspect Strauss for the Scotland game then possibly a change for the italy game. Scotland have a big second row, and wouldn't want to take too big a risk....I was there in 2013 when the line out was destroyed and we lost the game.

I'm more interested in the backrow/ bench makeup....some serious options open to Schmidt.

From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!

40 man squad with 3 uncapped players all from the >TLGH - Conway and Scannell x 2:

Only 2 10s named but Rory Scannell can cover 10 when not if Mr Sexton breaks down again. Reckon the 23 v Scotland will be:

Kearney, Trimble, Ringrose, Henshaw, Zebo, Sexton, Murray, Heaslip, SOB, CJ, Ryan, Toner, Furlong, Best, McGrath

Earls, Jackson, Marmion, POM/JVDF, Dillane/Henderson, Bealham, Tracy/Scannell, Healy

Fu@k the FIRFU.
NEVER MOVE ON. Years on, I cannot ever watch Ireland with anything but indifference, I continue to wish for the imminent death of Donal Spring, the FIRFUC's executioner of Wee Paddy & Wee Stu, and I hate the FIRFUCs with undiminished passion.

All the recent talk of project players and residency rules, CJ is the only PP in the 40 man squad. If Payne was fit, there would be 2 to be fair. Would be interesting to compare that with the other 6N squads.

Does this imply that project players are unimportant in the grand scheme of things or that the provinces have, generally, just not been very good at bringing in projects that help Ireland, rather than just themselves? Ultimately, I think it is the latter.
