A few surprises in the team. Good and bad.

Watched the U20 game -- to be honest their success is based on an oversized pack and an out half or can kick goals. By "oversized" I mean collectively they bigger than the opposition -- which is a temporary age advantage , thus I saw few who stood out as possible future professional players capable of taking the contract from an existing professional player.

Hawkshaw was the stand out back. lots of talent--- but lacking in natural savvy ---having made a break fails to ensure he has support and when he does tends to hog the ball to long. The backs looked sharp but with Hawkshaw playing 12 those out side him seldom saw the ball. The out half --- for me the jury's out -- missed to many touch line kicks -- but he can kick a ball a long way. The full back looked lively but again his talent may be limited to under the under age game and not naturally transferred to pro rugby.

Just to add Reid got on for about 20 minutes - seemed to do ok for his third game back, hard to judge really but didn't look out of place or off the pace. Will be interesting to see if he features again in the remaining 6 nations games.

I enjoyed this, I think this u-20 side is pretty useful - really impressed by the 9 Casey, he’s a cracking little player. Still think baby Byrne will be better than Ross, and the 2 centres are very good. Reid looked solid, hopefully stays in the squad now..

Big match against France - not looking nearly as strong as the WC squad, but still a big test
