Ireland win 31-29 and they've clinched the title with a game to spare. Superb match, seriously entertaining stuff.

Ireland u20s

Post by Columbo »

Absolutely cracking match - the u-20s this year is some of the best rugby I’ve watched all season! And Ireland look so good, even with new guys coming in, really impressive.

I’ll tell you what, Munster have some serious talent in this age grade Casey is an absolute gem of a player, Hodnett, Wren, Flannery (or ‘flangers’ as my autocorrect suggested) Wycherley - and the two guys who came in tonight were brilliant, French looks like an amazing athlete, big guy too, and I was seriously impressed with Healy at 10. He looks quite like Archie Andrews but a lovely player to watch, lovely fast pass on him and a great break, Harry Byrne is a great player, but he was hardly missed tonight!

Reid was impressive tonight, very solid in the scrum (in fact got a real shunt on once and if the French scrum half hadn’t whisked the ball away it could have been a pen), obviously got the try, and also the big choke tackle to close the game out!

Great to hear the reports about Reid. Ulster debut next season?
I have my own tv channel, what have you got?

Terrific game, the Irish 9 and the French 10 were extremely impressive. Agreed about Reid but disappointed in Kernohan - positioning weak and tackling diabolical.
From the rolling glens of Antrim through the hills of Donegal we will stand and shout for Ulster as we win both scrum and maul from the lovely lakes of Fermanagh tae the shores of ould Lough Gall we will scream and shout for Ulster as we beat them one and all!

This was very impressive from Ireland, especially when they have had to put up with such substandard coaching. The players obviously took it in hand themselves.

That’s twice I’ve watched them have yet to see our wing get a pass .

His positional defence looks weak because it appears he is meant to close on the 13 leaving the wing to the full back and cover defence .

I really don't know how Kernohan has gotten as far as he has with Ulster, doesn't seem up to much to my mind.

Kernohan is a short term fill in who seems destined for the Championship better than average but — just this deserves his opportunity but with Sexton in the pipeline bar serious injury to several players Kernohan seems to be a bench man when others are not available —

He reminds me of Conor Gaston who's managed to carve out a decent pro career

Ireland 10-7 down at HT. Below par performance in 1st half, so doing ok to only be 3 points behind.
