The reintroduction to Crusoe's thread of selling his ST with proceeds to charity got me thinking over the last few days.
Silly season, threads stagnating barring a few, we haven't even had a post on gay cakes for a couple of weeks, so I am hoping that somebody, should anyone respond, might introduce me to something worthwhile - but I digress, on with the notion.
Like our hero Crusoe, you are cast away, no sign of rescue but you do have you solar powered mPad (other pads are available).
Sadly you are a skinflint & you only have enough memory for 20 songs. What have you loaded on yours?
Mine?
1. Bad to the Bone - sung by George Thorogood, classic blues rock, loads of guitars & a great sax solo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7VsoxT_FUY
2.On Raglan Road - sung by Luke Kelly. Traditional music/Comeallyees were popular in our house, me Da being a Mexican. The song was written by Ulsterman Patrick Kavanagh, who after some travels became a well known drunk & poet in Dublin. The song is a tail of complete but bitter love for a bitch who just wasn't worthy of it & the despair that follows. Sinead O'Connor sings it beautifully but Kavanagh wanted Luke Kelly to sing it.

3. Mao Zedong Said - Alabama3. They aren't from Alabama, there are many more than three. Anarchic.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWBjwgxEawo
4. Going Back Home - Roger Daltrey & Wilko johnson - always liked Wilko & Dr Feelgood, everybody loves Roger Daltrey.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeoKCJN ... z4vx8t_XqQ
If you like it, here is their full concert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeoKCJN ... z4vx8t_XqQ
5. The Ghost of Tom Joad - Bruce Springsteen, the E Street Band and Tom Morello. Base on the John Steinbeck novel on the great depression, Grapes of Wrath, & Henry Fonda's speech as Tom Joad in the film, when he has to go on the run. Prefaced by the Boss talking about "High times on Wall Street, Hard times on Main Street". Possibly my favourite song & amongst Springsteen's best.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-mq0uJ ... -mq0uJ7rlM
6. Aja - Steely Dan. Any selection of a Steely Dan song is fraught with danger, there is almost no Steely Dan song that isn't better than anyone else produces, Becker & Fagen, two reformed teachers are real pros & the album Aja, judged by most as their best, 40 minutes & 7 songs of pure gold. Angular banjos sound good to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmUfP37d8yU
The entire album - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0gK66B6ifI
7. Force of Nature - Oasis. Yeah it's pop but pop has it's place, usually in the bin. Oasis hold a certain fond memory for me having been in a "lock in" of about 30 people maybe 20 years ago and a couple of lads started singing, no music just singing & soon the entire 30 souls were singing the entire Oasis catalogue extremely drunkenly, quality night just the same.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4ArXloFcX4
8. Cool for Cats - Squeeze, more pop but who doesn't like a wee squeeze. I always liked the humour in their lyrics & the odd gritty song here and there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmNqjQxwxKQ
9. Fire & Water - Free/Bad Company/Paul Rodgers. Proper Rock
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7lso-vgRvw
10. Bullfrog Blues- Rory Gallagher. Wouldn't be right not to have a bit of Rory live. The kid could play, don't go messing with the kid, loved that too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvv5SsKTaF4
11. Teenage Kicks - The Undertones, I think this was the first song I "danced" to with Mrs Trousers in the El Greco nightclub in Stroke City circa 1978. We're still together, the RA blew up the El Greco. Proper punk from Derry Hi.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAtUw6lxcis
12. Shining Light - Ash well sure you have to support local industry. I've always liked the intro best of all
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmUfP37d8yU
13. Alternative Ulster - Stiff Little Fingers, g'wan. I hold their opinion to this day, anyone who doesn't needs their bumps read. The best song about Norn Iron, ever.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLo7z50Tt2g
14. For A Dancer - Jackson Browne. Hmmmmmm, beautiful song, I think poignant is the word. He was a knowing 25 year old when he wrote that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qtsUKe2dUY
15. Into the Mystic - Van Morrison I could pick dozens of Van songs but I like the simplicity of the early albums.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0DJ8hWgNes
16. Jungleland - Bruce Springsteen, again, but this is for the sax solo by the Big Man.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBT_vUPgQ4o
17. Black Diamond Bay - Bob Dylan. The maestro spins a story about relationships in a hotel then throws them away as a reference on the 7 o'clock news of another tragedy that you don't want to hear & you never planned to go there anyway, so have another beer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URwum2GVunw
18. May you Never - John Martyn. Anybody knows anything loves John Martyn, this live version was when he was a beaten docket, performing from a wheelchair, presumably after his leg had been amputated. Drink, drugs & hard living, the man was a real legend.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPy3mJ8soGY
If you are more traditional JM fan, this is when he was a younger man who hadn't wrecked himself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZEjxv7E0x4
19. Icky Thump - White Stripes, I just like it right
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5roz5-wdjBg
20. Good Riddance (Time of your life) - Green Day. I like Green Day, I could name 50 Green Day songs I prefer but I include this as warning for chubes getting married, people play it at weddings without a lulu that it's a break up song called Good Riddance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhxuqUjGv4E
OK, a bit long and convoluted with all the videos, if you want to play, feel free not to bother with videos, just list the songs if it's too much like hard work. I'd like to hear something new.

In terms of summer beverages, I conducted a little bit of research into the market last night. Unanimous favourite was Ghrian Golden Ale from Pokertree. Go on! You know you want to.

Re: Crusoe
Good wee pint that, though their Biere De Garde is on another level, the best Northern Irish beer in my opinion!BR wrote:In terms of summer beverages, I conducted a little bit of research into the market last night. Re: Crusoe
That's the 'Cran' one? Sounded a bit Belgian for my liking. But based on the Ghrian, maybe I'll give it a go.

Some good stuff there Baggy. I'm a big George Thorogood fan myself.
I'll have to think about this but it'll probably be a lock o' blues because that's what I'm listening to mostly.
Here's one to start that you probably haven't heard before.
Harpoon Man - The late Paul deLay ; a big fat white cokehead from Portland that could play Blues harp like nobody else.

Volunteer at an animal sanctuary; it will fill you with joy , despair, but most of all love, unconditional love of the animals.

Sounds good Merv, listened to a few other songs. Like that sort of blues harmonica stuff. Looks like a guy who has grown older disgracefully.big mervyn wrote:Some good stuff there Baggy. I'm a big George Thorogood fan myself.

If you mean Pokertree Cran, it's from Tyrone. Available from various offies. Doubt you'll find it in Lahndan though.Russ wrote:Never heard of this French Ulster beer. Where may I find this?
