Irish actor Frank Kelly, best known for playing Father Jack in comedy Father Ted, has died aged 77.

Kelly had been a veteran of the stage and screen for 60 years.

As well as appearing on the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted, Kelly had more recent roles in Emmerdale and Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie.

The actor passed away exactly 18 years after the death of his Father Ted co-star Dermot Morgan. He died on Sunday 28 February 1998.

Mr Morgan's son, Don Morgan, tweeted about the coincidence of the date.
Feck, drink, weemen.
End of an era, never had to learn many words for Father Ted but one hell of an actor :salut: :stout:

One of the best comedy characters ever was Father Jack, I loved him. I also loved his comedy rendition of the 12 days of Christmas, look it up if you've never heard it, it's too funny.

What a co-incidence that he went on the very same date as Dermot Morgan, I'm sure they would've had a giggle about that.

RIP Frank, we'll be roaring at what you left behind in the shape of Father Jack for many more years to come.

Are they sure he hasn't just drunk a bottle of floor polish?

Great show, great character, sad he's gone, bizarre that Jack goes on the same date as Ted. :salut:

If true, even more bizarre that it took 18 years before they reported it.

Feck. RIP.
