People get sent there to play cricket as a punishment for being bad in a previous life (take that either way you like) .... and the ball gets lost in the long grass of the pitch.
Runs are scored as singles or sixes. If you don't clear the boundary in one, the ball won't roll or even bounce anywhere near it.
