Glentoran FC

Post by HwoodMike2umate »

About time we had a Glens topic. Made one of my rare visits last night (£10 for a seat in the stand - albeit with no burger and no TV) and what a better way to start the thread than with last nites 2 - 0 win over the dirty blue dogs. Two great goals by Gary Hamilton with man of the match Glens goalie Elliott Morris. Highlights are 12 minutes on www.glentoran.com Enjoy.

I once spotted a book on Irish League football in Bargain Books in Conswater ... from the minute I picked it up I started laughing ... one day I may even read it.

They are small uncomfortable plastic seats and very little leg room. You are pretty well shoulder to shoulder and knee to knee with the folks beside you. The new seats in the Stand that backs onto the Sydenham By-pass are better - but they are usually for opposition fans.

To Windsor Park I love to go, to see the Blues go down
For I support Glentoran from the other side of town.

To Windsor Park and the Oval I am condemned to go

As I can't afford to go and get Waterboarded at Guantanamo

One of the better Glens chant of the night, and most are not repeatable here, was, after the second goal when Linfield folk were starting to drift away .. "Sneaking off to your caravans, sneaking off to your caravans."

Indeed they do sir - scroll back up to the link i provided for the Glens website, go to the "Fans" section and you will see 11 Supporters Clubs listed. I keep meaning to pop into the Westbourne Glentoran Supporters Club in Solway Street (off Lower N'Ards Road, down the side of Russells Cellars) for a cheap pint but havent plucked up the courage yet. Will resolve to do so soon and PUBSPY report will follow here in due course. Made do last nite with 3 post match celebratory pints of Guinness in the bar at a rather quiet Park Avenue Hotel.

Comon Glenavon!!!!!!! (only joking I only support them because I live close and go to school in Lurgan, they are awful). Don't like football too much apart from Wigan. Hamilton scored a couple of good ones against Linfield.
When life gives you lemons - take them because hey... it's free lemons.

Head on in with your inflatable tricolour hammer and see if they just laugh and send for the men in white coats or assist your exit via the unopened window

You honestly think he'd get within three quarters of a mile of Solway St carrying that  :D

For the avoidance of any doubt i should point out that they sell Irish Tricolours in the Red White & Blue
shop opposite the Con Club approx 200 yrds from the aforesaid Glenbourne Glentoran Supporters Club.
