Lions legends at Belfast City Hall
Does anyone have the list of 22 Ulster Lions Legends who were invited?
I understand, for obvious reasons, that Bowe and Ferris would not be there. It was stated on the news that 18 were expected to attend. Whose else were missing from the list?

There is a poster from here at it so you might get an answer tomorrow, well that is if he gets over the news it was fundraising for Ballymena

Lets improve his disposition then - only part of the fundraising was for Ballymena.Rooster wrote:There is a poster from here at it so you might get an answer tomorrow, well that is if he gets over the news it was fundraising for Ballymena

Minor detail cables, he may need treatment for post traumatic stress as he didn't realise before parting with the cash I'm sure he will enjoy it anyway.cables wrote:Lets improve his disposition then - only part of the fundraising was for Ballymena.Rooster wrote:There is a poster from here at it so you might get an answer tomorrow, well that is if he gets over the news it was fundraising for Ballymena

Cables, visit intouchrugby.com
There is something there about this event, and I saw there a photo of 18 of 'em lined up.
I suspect you will be better placed to put names to faces than I am.
I came across this on twitter and haven't looked at it properly so may be of limited use.
BTW intouchrugby.com is a great site for those who follow the amateur game including junior clubs

Also I'm sure you can work out, from who is there, who's not.

Thanks Rooster and you also Welder.
Before saying why I raised this, can anyone confirm that in back row centre is Nigel Carr?

Can't confirm it without DNA analysis but it looks very like him, and if it is he never played for them but did play against them.cables wrote:Thanks Rooster and you also Welder.

Re: Lions legends at Belfast City Hall
Yes, it's Carr. Did he not play for what was described as a Lions side against a Rest of the world side at Cardiff? He didn't tour with the Lions though.Rooster wrote:Can't confirm it without DNA analysis but it looks very like him, and if it is he never played for them but did play against them.cables wrote:Thanks Rooster and you also Welder.

Is Buzz Lightyear one of the missing?

Re: Lions legends at Belfast City Hall
OK Rooster I will assume it is Nigel.
I have been intrigued by this from the event was originally announced.
My belief was that there were 21 surviving Ulster Lions (1950 on).
J.W. Kyle
J.E. Nelson
A.C. Pedlow
D. Hewitt
S. Millar
W.R. Hunter
W.J. McBride
C.M.K. Gibson
K.W. Kennedy
R.A. Lamont
R.M. Young
S.A. McKinney
R.A. Milliken
C.S. Patterson
D.G. Irwin
T.R. Ringland
S.J. Smith
J. Davidson
T.G. Howe
T. Bowe
S. Ferris
I could not figure how there were 22.
I was fairly confident and turned my thinking towards who else they were including.
Three names were possibles. Nigel Carr, Philip Matthews and Eric Miller.
Carr played for the Lions v Rest of World in Cardiff Arms Park on 16 April 1986 but he was not a Lion on the basis that the Lions are a touring side from the British Isles.
Matthews captained the Lions v France in the Parc des Princes on 4 October 1989 but was not a Lion either.
Miller was a Lion and did play for Ulster at a time but I would never describe him as an Ulster Lion.
Perhaps 21 would have been correct, but if Carr was to be included then should Matthews not also have been included making it 23 'for the night'?
PS Welder there are a small number I cannot identify from the photo even with the knowledge of who they could be.

Re: Lions legends at Belfast City Hall
I think the 4 missing ones might be Ronnie Lamont and Jeremy Davidson plus the two current Irish internationals

Re: Lions legends at Belfast City Hall
You right me wrong Grumps he played for Lions v Rest of World, Carr had to retire in 87 from injuries in the bomb blast at Newry and next tour was 89Cap'n Grumpy wrote:Yes, it's Carr. Carr is not classed a Lion on their website
