I always thought it was defined as a strong hatred of women, typically brought about by a disfunctional relationship as a child.

Lack of respect is a very different thing to hatred. IMHO

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/misogyny
Misogyny refers specifically to a hatred of women. The word is formed from the Greek roots misein (“to hate”) and gynē (“woman”). Each of these roots can be found in other English words, both common and obscure. Gynē helped to form gynecologist and androgynous, and misein can be found in such words as misoneism (“a hatred, fear, or intolerance of innovation or change”) and misandry (“a hatred of men”).

Most of those who complain about misogyny are actually misandrists

Any criticism or negativity towards women will be taken by some people as misogyny.

It matters not whether such criticism or negativity is justified or even debatable, for some, there are no reasons why a woman or weemen may be criticised.

Weemen are perfect. Anything saying, hinting, implying otherwise is misogyny.

We're still in the 'joke' thread, right? :duck:

I thought toxic was the word of the week as Ulster rugby and culture can't be mentioned without it.

Possibly so, in theory, but if you're on the end of either a lack of respect or hatred the difference is probably pretty immaterial, either us intended to make you feel crap about yourself.
