That has been a common theme here for about 3 years. Sometimes you wonder what the coaching team are seeing.Jackie Brown wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 9:17 am
Why has it taken so long for the good Rea to be given a chance? Another phenomenal performance. Great seeing the angry Duane.

McIlroy injured right ankle early on - thought he was going to get subbed (probably should have been) - fair play to him for playing on as long as he did - the injury certainly took a yard of his pace
Finished

OK, an injury would explain perhaps McIlroy being chased down by Marmion. Any winger worth his salt would want to be finishing there. My preference is for Lyttle, a natural finisher in those positions. A real handful but terribly injury prone. McIlroy is very capable, does the essentials of the game well. A bit more speed will develop as he does.
Some players like McIlroy, Doak and Rea jnr have really benefited from an extended run in the team.

Who is making the decisions at penalty time?
Also do we not have anyone who can drop a goal? Our points per minute of possession around the 22 must be awful.

Regardless of injury McIlory's scoring record for the number of games played is low for a back 3 player when compared to Balacoune Lyttle Gilroy and Stockdale etc Nor would he be high in the assist score either .
His skill level is high his white line fever is low .

I thought the decisions were OK (unlike last week). We took 2 pens when it was necessary to make the game more secure but otherwise were chasing a TBP.

Great for Ulster to get the BP in the end but they should never have had that last chance. I am sure Connacht were in possession after 80 mins and more than 2 scores behind, having only scored 2 tries.
Surely there would gave been more benefit to them in kicking it out and denying a ruval the BP opportunity than trying to scire a try from far it at that stage?
Of course it may well be academic as Connacht looking unlikely to catch ulster now but still seemed like their best option.

Did we only have one hooker in the 23 last night or does one of the big lads have another string to his bow?

Yes - only one specialist hooker in the squad (Andrews was ruled out before the match) - 3 props on the bench. To be fair to Declan Moore he did well enough for someone who has just arrived at the club - his darts were a bit awry but that’s perhaps to be expected for someone just thrown into the team.big mervyn wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:43 am Did we only have one hooker in the 23 last night or does one of the big lads have another string to his bow?
Hope is not a strategy.

How have we run out of hookers? It was the one thing we had plenty of.

You dont think the last penalty to the corner (albeit ultimately successful ) was very foolish?big mervyn wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:24 amI thought the decisions were OK (unlike last week). We took 2 pens when it was necessary to make the game more secure but otherwise were chasing a TBP.

I blame the repedestrianisation of Adelaide Street

There was a very minor risk of Connacht running the length and busting my handicap bet but I gave them my blessing.BR wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:58 amYou dont think the last penalty to the corner (albeit ultimately successful ) was very foolish?big mervyn wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 11:24 amI thought the decisions were OK (unlike last week).
