I would say Leinster are fairly pi*sed that they have managed to get Ulster in last 16 when you look at the likes of Montpellier, Ospreys, Leicester and Stormers (don’t travel) on that side of the table.

Throw in that Ulster have very few involved in 6Nations, plenty of rest and time together.

I would far rather play Leinster at Aviva than Sarries or Exeter.

All in all I’m very, very quietly confident we could cause an upset.

If we can muster that intensity again, then an upset could happen. Unfortunately, when Ulster try to get psyched up for a match, too often they play like headless chickens.
If they can control their emotions then maybe…
IF we win does that mean the rest of our matches would be in Ireland??

Would be if in the URC, but think the rules have changed in Europe for this season.

Is it true Ulster get 35% of the gate profit?

That's potentially massive.

Agreed. Rather lose McIlroy and Gilroy. He's also a cracking place kicker never called upon.

Sale fans in front of us had an Albanian fleg.
You can blame Rob Andrew for that.

As ever the truth lies closer to home, specifically a game between these two sides in the autumn of 2001. Newcastle had just beaten Leicester and their director of rugby Rob Andrew remarked that losing to Sale the following week would be "like England losing to Albania at soccer". His throwaway line was pinned up in the Sale dressing room, Newcastle were subsequently thrashed 37-11 and Sharks fans have milked the joke relentlessly ever since.

Great performance, error ridden for sure but when you have the effort and commitment, I’m not complaining. Chapeau DMcF as well, the bench impact was decisive. Couldn’t get a better result then the Aviva away (again), one day we will win, promise!

Good stuff. Thanks for that!

Yes the Sale fans definitely added to the atmosphere. :salut:

Good win. 8 o'clock kick offs are great. Thought young Sheridan did well and is Jacob playing himself back into some form. He did a few things poorly last night, but there were also some glimpses of him back in full flight, which was a joy to behold.

Personally, I thought some of our game management was poor. In the 1st half, and particularly the 2nd, when we were camped on their line, the repeated pick and go wasn't working against a big pack. There was huge amounts of space out wide and I didn't understand why we didn't fire the ball out, particularly when Lyttle had already demonstrated his ability to finish when one on one.

We also failed to spot how much Sale were contesting the ruck and got turned over too many times by not committing enough bodies to secure possession.

The other thing that stood out for me was how much faster Cooney was at getting the ball away from the ruck. He got us playing at a much higher tempo. HIs ability to assess what is on and make quick decisions shows how much Doak has to learn.

All in all a good win, but one that didn't hide our limitations.

A good win yes. Improved performances and showed some grit at the end.

But…..

Call me a miserable facker all you like but this won’t do UR any favours. Likely to get the usual tanking by Leinster in the last 16 to end another disappointing Hieny Cup. Ain’t going to be URC champs either.

A plucky draw or a LBP & 4TBP would have secured Challenge Cup qualification which might give a more realistic chance of silverware to break that duck.

The 2nd disallowed try in the 2nd half was a simple walk in if they passed it one out to Timoney.

Those are the sort of quick decision making that Keinster excel at and make look easy.

Feck the challenge cup.

There still is a scenario whereby we will not meet Leinster, we could end up playing Sorries, Exeter or Edinburgh still. The probability of that happening is well......

If London Irish beat Montpellier in France by 28 points or more and Montpellier pick up no try bonus point we will play one of the following

Sorries if they beat Edinburgh in any form or if they draw and gain a try bonus point
Exeter if Sorries lose to Edinburgh (and Edinburgh do not hit the criteria below)
Edinburgh if they beat Sorries by 52 points or more and pick up a try bonus point

This is the most useless piece of information you will read today.
