We brought two Spanish rescue dogs back from Cherbourg to Dublin last year. Sailed with Brittany ferries and they each had a large pen. The journey is too long to leave them in a vehicle. The kennels were clean but you need to bring bedding. We were allowed regular access to exercise and toilet them. The crossing was a bit rough but they seemed none the worse unlike Mrs BM! Milton, the big lad, had been in a rescue centre for over 5 years!

The kennels were next to the trucks on the Brittany ferry too but tbh it doesn't really matter.shamalicious wrote:Have a look at the dog lovers NI page... Reading bad things about Stena and the kennels are next to all the trucks apparently. Only getting this information second hand though.

The Dordogne and France is great for dogs btw. It's a very dog friendly country. We have camped and stayed in hotels with ours. Much better than leaving her in kennels.

Are the trucks not generally loaded first anyway and they don't drive around during the sailing !

Dogs don't care so much for views if they are safe and warm! The ferry we crossed on had a crew member permanently on the deck keeping an eye on them.
Correction. Actually sailed with Irish ferries but the arrangements can vary from ship to ship within the same company.

5 years for Milton ... poor thing ... How are the rescue dogs settling?
How did you hear about the rescue dogs?
Fair play to you Merv

When I'm in Spain I work in a dog rescue centre 3 days a week. We brought the dogs back for my daughter.Bring Humph On!! wrote:Great stuff.big mervyn wrote:We brought two Spanish rescue dogs back from Cherbourg to Dublin last year. They're doing brilliantly. Milton is a star. Coco, the smaller one causes all the trouble, but he's only 2!
