Is he not getting a wee bit old to be playing for Ulster?kingofthehill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:09 pmBring back Willy Anderson …….Columbo wrote:Genuinely appallingUlsterNo9 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 03, 2023 2:43 pm Iain Henderson Ireland senior debut, November 2022, over 10 years ago.
Since then 52 forwards have been capped by Ireland, the split by birth demographic as follows (can give further breakdown if required - ask how you want it shown)
Outside the island of Ireland - 14no. ( of that 4no. moved here as kids - all 4no. had Irish parents)
Connacht - 2no.
Munster - 12no.
Leinster - 24no.
Appreciate it's rude and it's crude but even by fluke there should have been someone of international standard come through in the last ten years. Even Connacht is hands down beating us. Whilst I don't think we are doing a tap at grass routes level to encourage it, numbers would say we are actually doing something to discourage it!
Yes, I get the private schools in Dublin have so much funding, but why are we Munster beating us 12no. to 0 ?
We can blame the current coaches and signings all we want (rightly so both should be under scrutiny), but you cannot polish a turd.
What's the plan to produce even 5no. international forwards over the next decade?

Re: Any word on the Academy?
I did read a number of players [not specifically Ulster players] are injured and therefore not available for selection.
A low number but it depends how much game time they all get - see who gets picked as starters. You'd like to think McNabney would feature quite heavily . Not sure what the competition in the back three and at lock is like.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Doak is injured yeah, presume he will get in when he returns.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
My guess is it will be between Irvine and Hopes for replacement lock.
Telfer could start on the wing, if not he will be 23rd man.
McNabney will be a star and start at 8.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Well a star number8 is nothing to be sniffed at and the other lads should get a chance to make an impression.
Re: Any word on the Academy?
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don't think Doak will be close to Ireland U20 Six Nations squad
