Great point scrum but Leinster filter them in.
That's the key.
They give them the last minute or 2 of a pro12 game.
Then a half against an inferior side at home.
They never throw them in a deep end or enmasse and always keep them involved never to be used as break glass options only.
They understand that's it's about building and developing the youngster.

Look at. us by comparison.
We think nothing of starting a player on debut or throwing them in to get on with it.
When they mess up and their confidence is disintegrated then we chuck them on the scrap heap.

Take Clooney as a pressed 10 v La Rochelle one of Europe's top sides.
We choose to play him at 10 for the first time without him playing 1 minute there previously.

Or Cairns given no game time since his debut v Edinburgh last year.
Then we start him v Leinster.

2 examples in 2 games of a complete lack of foresight that any amateur team would be embarrassed by.

How long is Gibbs’s contract for? My one ray of hope currently is Gibbs is that ambitious he won’t want to be tarnished with a UR shambles, and is promised to takeover after kiss, And pretty much has a free hand re selection of forwards matters.
I have a nasty feeling though, what if he is only at UR until he is announced as Ireland’s new forward coach?

Agreed Baz. We need to blood a nipper at a time but we must do it. We can't wait until they are 23/24.

Sorry....interview was at end of the game on the beeb. My take of Rory’s views were....prep wasn’t right, also forwards need to stop making mistakes as it kills any chance of a performance, generally the quality isn’t there in the forwards when going against the like of La Rochelle and Leinster....he interestingly linked both those performances (last 20 of La Rochelle game). He looked frustrated and was basically saying to live with those sides we need to be 100% flawless because our forwards aren’t as good as theirs. A thinly veiled reflection of UR set up and poor recruitment policy?

Dave you're so right that's too late.
If we wait for a player till they're 23-24 to blood him he will be completely out of his comfort zone.
If he has been involved in the set up then the transition is seamless.

Think Sexton.
When Conteponi did his cruciate Sexton was handed the reigns at 24 as a relative unknown for the heiny cup semi.
People thought that would end Leinster but Sexton had been around the set up since his debut in 2006 v the border rievers.

The transition was seamless and they win the cup for the first time.
Sexton was completely comfortable in the set up so there was no throwing anyone in at the deep end when the worst case happened.
They were ready.

We have learned nothing from them

We don't seem to have any problems blooding the backs. I haven't checked but would imagine out of current crop, the likes of bowe, trimble, stockdale, gilroy, jackson, olding and marshall were all getting reasonable gametime by the time they were 21.

Forget about learning from them - we've learned f**k all from ourselves.

Its not as if we don't have a long string of dismal failures and mistakes to f**king learn from!!

If the Hond doesn't play against his old team, we should just leave him out there.

True.
They won't expect we'd be stupid enough to do exactly the same again when the previous 27 attempts have failed miserably.

More Blazers than players flying, some can't believe their luck, two free holidays this year .
Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn't try it on.
