very good performance that, for the first time Plan A worked which is a good thing, because this tournament has shown we don't have much else! Actually that's not quite fair, the tactical kicking was a bit more varied, and we had obviously done a lot of work on the carries because we were much better at using footwork / tipping on, or in some cases going out the back.

Also impressive that we pulled out a performance like that in spite of another indifferent outing by the half-backs, particularly Murray who was pretty poor again - Sexton looked a little fitter, and showed some flashes. But it was the pack who made the difference - the front 5 were all class, Stander had an absolutely great game, one of his best in a while, and I thought the forward subs all played well as well.

I think on that form we should be beating Wales pretty comfortably - it might be a bit churlish to say this about a side who hasn't lost yet (and who beat England pretty well!) but they've only really looked impressive for one half (second half versus Eng), the rest of the time they've been bitty and error-prone, even against France in the second half they didn't play especially well France just absolutely blew their own nuts off.. twice..

but the big problem for Ireland is inefficiency - I saw on twitter stats from 27 mins, Ireland basically 90% possession and territory (I think something like 50% in the French 22) - and the score? 7-0... If NZ or England have those stats they'll be 25-20 points ahead.. And Wales big strength is their defence, it's why they win matches - it keeps them in games where they're struggling, and then when they inevitably get some possession they're pretty good at taking a couple of opportunities. Our game last year was a good example, we crushed them for 50 minutes, but didn't really put them away until the intercept at the end (admittedly thanks in large part to McFadden and his much-vaunted dependability in defence  )
..one more thing

Reality check.
Schmidt has never won in Cardiff.
We were beaten 22 9 last time there.
The Taffies will be salivating over the Grand Slam and really up for it.

I am not saying we can't win but it's going to be a lot tougher than France.

SOB will need a huge improvement if he is to face Wales. He has been so far off the pace thus far I'd prefer to see Nordi in there.

Don't care as long as he's good to go in 2 weeks time. Same for Jordi.

That's what I'm thinking too Merv. Worried that Addison hasn't been seen or heard of either.

I think I recall spotting Addison in the tunnel at the Zebre game.

He was clapping the team quite vigorously which I thought was grounds for optimism.

.. although "vigorous clapping" isn't always a sure sign of match fitness.

interesting to see that the Leinster reject, Beirne, gets his chance to play against his old Scarlet chums.
i expect nothing less than a Wales Grand Slam.

So do the Welsh. It's the one thing in our favour.

They the welsh might do it if their luck holds out.

Beirne was always going to feature in the 6Nations at some stage > The most interesting selection is Carty on the bench --- Carberry maybe have some serious competition at out half , But he may make the plane to Japan as the ulitily back I am similarly unsurprized by the inclusion of Roux before Dillane ,as I pointed out his work when Ireland are on the front and given the ball is fine its his movement around the pitch when possession is lost and Ireland are going backwards is off the pace. Defensively I would rate Treadwell more highly .
