Are you allowed now to put your hands on the ground beyond the ball at the ruck? It's all these heavy SA forwards can do.

That penalty was a pretty grim call on the stormers line. Lowry held onto by the tackler who wouldn't let him turn and place the ball. Only decent thing Ulster have done all match mind.

If that was about as gilt edged a penalty try as you're likely to see.

If their 6 has resourced a ruck legally this match, I haven't seen it. In some ways, fair play to him because he's getting away with it, but a couple of the penalties given to him as a result have been fairly consequential.

Really poor game mangement given time on the clock at 37 minutes to take points at penalty rather than go to corner, you've still got to exit after the penalty score which we didn't and gave them a penalty to cancels ours out without then having to face a restart and exit themselves.
Our maul has went well all season, has gone well today, we should have played postive rugby and backed ourselves. Go to the corner and at least see out the half in their 22.
Fair enough if it had of been 39th minute and we didn't have to face a restart and exit.

Lowry gets another slap to the head and again his size is used as a mitigation. Players need protected no matter what their size and tacklers need to adjust accordingly. Shocking decision.

Interesting decision there on the high tackle on Lowry. When they started talking about 'ducking' I thought they were looking for mitigation down through the card colours. It was a complete accident and would be happy enough if that's how stuff like that was treated, but seems at odds with what World Rugby is trying to push at the minute and suspect plenty of other refs would have been going for a yellow card in the same position.
Despite not having scored yet, Ulster are looking a lot better in the second half, making quite a good match of this. Also really happy with how our scrum is going, given the calibre of the opposition front row. Bodes well.

And just as I hit submit McCloskey runs over a couple of defenders from 15 yards out and scores a try he had no right to. 23-20, game on.

Turning down an easy 3 to level the match to go for the corner. Interesting they do that now and not at the end of the first half. Fair play though.
