am i right in think?...

Post by PhilstuckinEdinburgh »

Just doing some really bad maths, does it stand that worse case scenario as long as Gloucester (who are sitting as worst placed 2nd with one match tomorrow) don't beat the Dragons with 4 tries and over 40pts then we are in the ECC no matter what?

yeah it'd be a shame to not go through, it'll be a good opportunity for us to win the only trophy we haven't claimed....

in fact perhaps the Leinster L'Irish result may have ensured we go through, again depending on how they read the scarlets score....
Looking good for us...

How many tries did the Scarlets score tonight? I'm thinking it might have been 2, in which case we're on 11 and the Scarlets 12 which assuming it goes on tries means they're trhough and we have to wait until tomorrow.

Surely tries scored counts ahead of points difference, in which case any bonus point win for Gloucester puts them through as they're on 8 tries and we finished on 11. Scarlets finished on 12.

Quarter-finals qualification if teams are equal:

Clubs from different Pools (if still unresolved)
(iii) if the teams have not played each other previously in the Pool
stage, qualification / ranking will be based on:
(a) the number of tries scored in all Pool matches.
(b) aggregate points difference from all Pool matches.
(c) the Club with the fewest number of players sent off and / or suspended in all Pool
matches.
(d) toss of a coin.

Ulster Played 6 17pts 11 tries +33 points
Gloucester Played 5 12 pts 8 tries -19 points

do your own sums

Who would have thought we would be looking for a favour from the Dragons?

Wins for Harlequins and Toulouse puts us through as well, but Harlequins look disinterested in the competition this year. A lot of things could happen tomorrow.

I fully expect Harlequins to roll over tomorrow.

Ulster Rugby website reporting we have ALREADY qualified for Amlin QFs
This afternoon at the Recreational Ground Ulster claimed an historic 28 - 10 victory over Bath, narrowly missing out on Heineken Cup quarter-final qualification but ensuring further European action this season in the Amlin Challenge Cup
Ulster finished in second place with 17 points, qualification for the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-finals guaranteed, and, notably, their first victory on English soil in 11 years

I think that is correct barring some weird turn in the games tomorrow, like a cricket score and all the favourites to lose get no bonus points and to be beaten by 4 try's each half......

Indeed. Possibly getting a little ahead of themselves, but probably should turn out to be true.
