Lurgan Tigers have completed and outstanding season an done THE ITALIAN JOB -scoring a huge success on their P7 Milan Rugby Tour - winning the entire tournament. They were the only representative team in Ulster / Ireland and indeed the UK at the tournament so expectations were indeed high. Large crowds flocked to view the Tigers team in action.

Despite facing some physically larger boys across both France and Italy, the Tigers were undaunted roaring into action against a mixed team of boys and girls to win 7-0.

Their second match was against Genova and was a much tighter affair but Genova simply couldn't cope with Lurgan's rucking skills and the Tigers ran out 3-0 winners.

The third match was against Chieri who were another big Italian side but the boys were on a roll now and smashed into the tackles and rucks to such an extent that Chieri couldn't cope with the Tigers and the flying backs soon began to score the tries.

In match four they were up against Asti, again a physically impressive side. Again this was a very close match with Asti providing the Lurgan boys with their hardest match yet. With no scrums or line-outs the rugby was very fast and furious and the boys were beginning to feel the heat. But it ultimatley was a comfortable win.
The anthems and pre match build up for the semi and final would have graced any international and the young Lurgan lads stepped up to the mark ultimately winning all 10 games including the final.- and not conceding a try on the finals days. Outstanding defence in 30 deg heat in anyones books...
The cup is now in the hands of one of Ulster rugbys finest mini Rugby teams . The Lurgan lads played superb flowing rugby which has been a feature of recent tournaments and can hold their heads up high as they have certainly represented ULSTER and wider afield in such a professional manner. :salut:

What is the current IRFU policy re participation in such competitions?

Is this still the applicable non-competition policy?
non-competition meaning no leagues/cups and blitzes and or events resulting in play-off matches or finals.
Irrespective - winning is likely to have sweetened the participation.

Well done to all the boys, coaches and parents. I'd heard about the tremendous effort made by all concerned to fund raise and organise this. The boys will never forget it--fantastic experience for the lads.

A great achievement to get the ''dough'' together to fund the trip to Italy and then to win the tournament - well done to all those involved !!

Also I see the Lurgan Tigers U 13s have won the Ulster Youth Under 13 cup 2 years in a row - somebody must be doing something right down there!!!
