Positives and Negatives: Ulster V leinster

Post by againstthehead »

Sheesh, was that Sarries mark 2?

Positives
- firstly, another epic performance in terms of desire, effort, commitment and passion for the shirt. Never have I witnessed such a display of courage.... well actually... maybe a few weeks ago.... In all seriousness, to come away with a LBP playing with 14 men for most of the game against one of the top sides in european rugby is an incredible achievement. I was delighted at the end whilst everyone around was pretty quiet. To be honest I'd have taken a LBP before the game with the 15 men we had out there!!!
- thought beagle had a blinder. Tackling, passing, kicking, did really really well.
- Jacko did well too in pretty much all facits of his game
- Henderson and Dan T really got fired into Leinster. Big performances in the engine room
- Cave did a couple of nice things when he came on
- Top 4 qualification. I'll take that thanks very much. Good work lads.

negatives
- pre-match. Wasn't for me sorry. All a bit amateur. Well, I liked the ball-thing for a bit but then kinda dragged on. Danny boy was ruined by the players warming up, cheerleaders tried..... 3/10 Ulster Rugby I'm afraid.
- scrum. Struggled with 15 men but died with 14. Probably our 4th choice tighthead started the game so hard to blame the guys. Sheesh, the leinster front row on the bench would grace any Rabo side and some international sides.....
- Red card, Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa. haven't seen it on TV so hard to comment too much. didn't look clever. The leinster yellows weren't too far from red either given the current standard of carding....
- the biggest negative is probably just witnessing another game which was ruined by a red card. Our 2 biggest games of the season turned into non-contests (if you know what I mean?), Just ruined as spectacles. Just a bit gutting as a fan.

So overall, an odd night. Gutted to have seen a game spoiled by a red but delighted for the guys to have shown such courage and getting a LBP and gaining a top 4 place.

Our only chance of getting some silverware is to target that semi-final and get some players back fit. fek Munster. Send the Ravens to Munster. Charge the batteries and unleash hell's fury at the RDS.

I had doubts that Ulster have the heart and passion I see in Munter. Today I am a happy happy happy boy

Positives and Negatives: Ulster V leinster

Post by shamalicious »

Positives:
- Another monumental effort from 14 men tonight after the game being ruined by yet another harsh decision.

- Johann is a bloody hero. Seeing him come out with his kids brought a tear to my eye.

- Hendo really maturing well.

- Cave made a couple of lovely breaks (why did he replace Luke and not "Rickay"?)

- Although Rickay did grand tonight.

Negatives:

- The red card. Toner is a big lanky streak of pish at 6ft 10 and he manoeuvred himself into an awkward landing. Really feel for Tom.

- Another ref having too much of an impact on the game.

- Rickay needs to back himself more. He made a good break but should've just taken it into contact rather than kicking it.

- I thought the guy behind me was going to have a stroke! The entire match he was roaring "cheat", "waste of skin", "stars", "traitor" (Boss) any time a Leinster player or the ref came anywhere near us. Was frankly embarrassed for him. At one point BOD laughed in disbelief at him. I was drunk off at times but he was hostile and aggressive. Not nice for kids to be around.

Oh dear, that might have been me, sorry about that. Does remind me of the 2 old dears on then beach when a bit of a hunch walks by, one of them has a stroke, the other can't reach..................................

Hard to disagree with what's been said already. Felt strange at the end of the game, didn't know whether to feel sickened, gutted, happy, emotionally bankrupt, spent, I could go on.

This season has been the most frustrating season ever, all we need is to cop a bloody break. We nearly sneaked that one too :banghead:

Hate to say it but after 2 losses of a 2 point margin playing with 14 men in the space of the month, I really don't think I can put myself through a semi final at the RDS.

I'm tired of us being 'plucky Ulster'. Something needs to change.

Thought the scrum was a big positive TBH. Warrick is clearly a talent given his age for a prop. He was only starting his second game at this level which he played on the wrong side of the scrum and only went backwards a couple of times, one of which was his first scrum and one was against a fully fresh front row. In at least 70 to eighty percent of the scrims he didn't give an inch. Incidentally one of the two penalties conceded was clearly nuggets fault as the warwick stood his ground, the other I think the whole scrum went back. I think we might have a keeper there!

Jackson was not the positive he's being made out to be. Kicking from hand was shocking and some decisions were poor too. Definitely not my MotM.

Red card was fair. Drop a guy on his head you're asking for trouble. Obviously there was no intent, but that was stupid.

Their cards were yellows and no more. Kearney was simply a high tackle that looked a lot worse than what it was and Ruddock was shoved by Kirchner who should've been yellow carded instead. Can't complain for either.

Ref I thought had a very good game overall.

Henderson best player on the pitch by a country mile. Muller I hate to say it is more a spectator than a player these days.

Pre-match was diabolical. The less said the better.
You haven't seen me at my best yet. Let's be honest, you probably never will.

Some people are never happy.
Main positive was that we are alive and fighting in the play offs and we have players completely written off by some, who have really stepped up to the plate and got us there.
Could you have imagined a few seasons ago what Leinster would have done to us with our injury list and 14 men?!

Yeah, kinda tired of playing Leinster Wee Woman. That said, if we rest up Vs Munster and maybe get one or two guys back eg Afoa and another backrower (diack or Ferris)? I think we would be competitive. Then it comes down to having a favourable ref and a bit of lady luck. Sport is a funny thing, sometimes you just never know...

As I have said before on here I dont believe any side should have a reliance or belief in luck.
Its an emotional cop out which is what you make of it.
The need to change is fairly obvious with keeping 15 players on the pitch I would have thought.

That said I am getting increasing worried by the credentials of some posters who arent prepared to give MA a moments credit for some stellar performances this season that will live with us forever and showed a form of hardness of character, rarely seen in sport.
Perhaps more so in one season than in the entire decade after we won the HEC (short memories).
You dont get performances like that out of players, playing for someone you dont rate.

All the furore on here about Caves lack of selection is once again a complete and utter failure to understand that rugby is now a 23 man game and because you dont start does not necessarily mean you have a less significant role to play.

Some are even criticising us for not playing an expansive game with a man down in the back row against the traditional break down specialists of European rugby.
Says it all.
