Re: Schools Cup 2016
Not a classic.... As commented on previously it appeared to be two sets of oversized youngsters battering into each other and trying to outmuscle each other and in doing so cancelling each other out. Poor handling from both sets of backs and a lack of plan 'B' from both teams.Congratulations to RBAI and well played CCB who deserved to win but lacked the final cutting edge in the second half.

Strangely subdued vibe at the final whistle...

Good point actually... The game itself failed to live up to the occasion in my humble opinion....two well drilled outfits but there was a worrying lack of flair/ X Factor... Two big packs cancelling each other out and RBAI did their homework on CCBs line out which negated their threat somewhat. I sincerely hope next season sees the emergence of a country school as a serious contender. Ballymena will be kicking themselves as on their day they could have beaten either side on show today but that's schools rugby.

The Master Race won because their defence played better than Campbell's attack.
The ref was worse than Fitzmonkey.
Gusher mentioned everybody who had ever played in a Schools' Cup Final.
The weather was very nice.

I've watched worse finals " The Master Race " had the better back line because firstly their scrum half was quicker getting the ball away and secondly the backs were lying deeper and had space to hit the gain line at pace .
Campbell on the other hand were lying flat and crabbing across the pitch or failing to get the ball wide with too many of the runs by the centres back towards the pack .
The result confirmed the team who make the fewest mistakes wins .
The ref blew early because players were dropping with cramp and or becoming prone to injuries and a clear result had been achieved . Campbell needed to score twice in 3 minutes having failed for the best part of the second half .
There were no objections coming to the early whistle .
As a neutral spectator I think the referee did a reasonable job while the card was harsh I think the player was unfortunate to be the 3rd or 4th Inst player to be or appear to be reckless in the tackle .
As a neutral it was an enjoyable game in the sunshine I have seen much worse games.

Time keeping should move into the 21st Century.
The live time should be on big screens for all to see and monitored by a time keeping official. Real time link between Pitch Ref stops/restarts and the screen during game and Hooter to blow when normal time ended in each half.
Remember 20 years ago today Regent were denied a win when MCB equalised after the game had overrun by at least five minutes. Ready Steady Cook...
Belvedere are the undisputed Irish School champions 2016.

The Inst defense was really quite something I have to say, brave, smart, and put their bodies on the line every time. Attack didn't quite come off as well as I'd expected but they certainly played with plenty of endeavour and some of the offloading was absolutely sublime. I'd say that Hume has a good future ahead of him but it'll be difficult for any lad coming up as a centre, I wonder could he be brought through as a 10.

Russ you might not have been even a twinkle in the eye at that time
But some have seen a good few finals over the years some good some not so good, this years was at actually a very reasonable final -- a lot of effort, sound defending and the result in the balance for most of the game.
Did the best team win ? there will be a most will yes and the result confirms that opinion but a few will say no and say if only

Re: Schools Cup 2016
Wonder if Campbell wanted to be winning at half-time?
