No but I noticed the General had a Train timetable and keep skipping outside every so often. With the close proximity of the local track I presumed that he was an keen spotter.

he was probably just keeping an eye out for Holywoodmike

Brian Lyle is currently a referee. The real question is whether he could be the one you recall BP!

If they were arguing with him about the laws then it's definitely him Cables. He used to argued with the refs about the laws when I played alongside him. Poacher turned gamekeeper.
