Which League Table?

Post by cables »

The CL new-style table is now (Played) Pts.:

Munster (6) 23
Ulster (6) 22
Edinburgh Gunners (6) 18
Border Reivers (6) 17
Leinster (6) 17
Cardiff Blues (5) 15
Glasgow Warriors (6) 12
Llanelli Scarlets (5) 11
Dragons (5) 10
Ospreys (5) 9
Connacht (6) 5

An old style table with no free-week points and no counting a free-week as if a team had played would be:

Munster (6) 23
Edinburgh Gunners (6) 18
Ulster (5) 18
Border Reivers (5) 13
Leinster (5) 13
Llanelli Scarlets (5) 11
Cardiff Blues (4) 11
Ospreys (5) 9
Glasgow Warriors (5) 8
Dragons (4) 6
Connacht (6) 5

The old style table puts us in 3rd position 5 points off the lead but with a game in hand against the (2) teams above us. Munster have a free-week next weekend and we travel to the team just below us (in both tables).

Which table do you prefer and do you think the CL decision has fulfilled their desire to “address the imbalance in the league table caused by having an uneven number of teams in the competition”? Or, has the decision just introduced confusion?

I think we should be credited with a little bit of intelligence and leave it as it was! Far more realistic???

Can't get too worked up over this one. I never had any problems working with the old style. The new way isn't a bad idea but it only really worked as it was designed to with the pre-Powergen Cup fixture list. The welsh teams playing games out of sequence really makes the whole change of methods pointless.

4:1 of those who replied.

A lot of opinion formers on this MB have perhaps not felt it was of much importance and that is fine.

I can now scrap an Ulternative Alster embryonic idea.

Thanks anyway it will save some work.

How many votes do you need before the embryo develops?

I like the old one, and the West English have made a ballex of the new method anyway

Think the old style one could be produced fairly readily and that it would also be in keeping with the 'Ulternative Alster' theme of this website.

e.g. the Ulternative Alster Celtic League Table
or the Ulternative Celtic League Table and perhaps the Scots and Welsh would come to 'visit' when they got to know about it.

The front page one could still be carried.

Guess I am in trouble with fermain now!

Not really, really, really fermain. I do have some grave doubts regarding the CL decision re this and I thought it would marry (Ulternative) well with this site if the same thing were produced containing all details as the one you have alerted everyone to but leaving out all elements of the free weeks and showing it as an old-style table.

Happy to suck and see feedback.
