A good enough read but a lot of incest talk in it - not the best when I bought it for my dad for his birthday!

Agree with other posts about John Connolly - quite dark but really good reads.

Have to recommend Preston/Child novels - unputdownable thrillers tending towards sci-fi - all the Prendergast ones are good.

Haruki Murakami's a good read as well - a wee bit weird but definitely recommended!

Going slightly off topic, I would reccomend watching "In Bruges" featuring Colin Farrell.

Very darkly funny, so good I watched to twice in the same night.

Any ideas on some historical fiction that could occupy my reading time? Conn Iggulden has been my staple holiday reads this past while, his roman trillogy fictionalising the rise and fall of Julius Ceasar was un-put-downable

Assume you've read Rubicon by Tom Holland? Persian Fire by the same author is a good read too. Not strictly fiction of course, but he admits to applying a fair degree of licence, particularly in the former.

Yes - read "Redbreast" on holiday during summer. Liked it. But if it's a REAL detective you're looking for - Harry Bosch is your man...Michael Connelly, his creator. Fantastic books.
