Re: A little bit of politics folks`

I read an article the other week about car production and the crankshaft of a mini crosses the English Channel 3 times before the car is finished, 4 times if the car is exported. The part is made in France, finished in England, fitted into an engine in Germany and the engine fitted into the car body...

Re: Top 14 Rugby

Both Stade and Racing were created by mergers with other teams. Stade's full name is Stade Français CASG and was created in 1995 with a merger between Stade Français and Club Athlétique des Sports Généraux. Racing Metro was created in 2001 with a merger between Racing Club de France and US Métro. Pl...

Re: Top 14 Rugby

Despite what the news says, there are claims that it isn't a merger, it is basically a takeover of Stade by Racing.

So will it be a gallic shrug or Aux Barricades! from the Stade fans...?

Re: Bad News Day for the DUPers.

If (and it looks like a big if at the moment...) the Scots vote for independence, that may have a bearing on attitudes to a united Ireland. At the moment, the United Kingdom is, in reality, Greater England plus some irritating celtic fringes but if the Scots bugger off, that will make it even more a...

Re: Best Destination you've ever been to?

I've been to Buenos Aires a few times. The restaurants that only serve prime cuts of meat tend to be more touristy but there are some good ones, look out for places called La Cabrera and La Cabrera Norte. More traditional places will serve lots more cuts including offal, sausages and black pudding (...

Re: USA Presidential Primaries 2016 - its all here.

The UK government hasn't a scooby how many people are actually in the country because there is no national database of citizens to even check who is illegal. The closest thing is a national insurance number but there are plenty of people who are here legally and don't have a NI number. The Home Offi...

Uncontrolled immigration left wing? Jeez... All those Polish builders provided lots of skilled labour for employers and given they were generally willing to work harder and for bit less than Brits, the competition kept wages down. All this was a benefit for employers from small businesses to multi-n...

Re: USA Presidential Primaries 2016 - its all here.

Fair play Neil. I really like the way you defined the difference between academia and the media and would agree with you in principle. Unfortunately I think that those waters have been muddied and there is a worrying censorship trend in education that stunts free thinking because it doesn't tally w...

Re: A little bit of politics folks`

It is easy to see why Putin and Trump dislike the EU. If they deal with individual countries they can bully them but they can't do that with a much bigger organisation. Theresa the appeaser will need some sort of US trade deal to try and put a positive spin on Brexit but she needs it more than Trump...

Re: A little bit of politics folks`

"dysfunctional and slowly dying" sounds like a pretty good description of the UK at the moment.

It might e best to put the UK as it is now out of its misery with an independent Scotland, united Ireland and the Kingdom of Greater England (Greater England including Wales of course...)

Re: A little bit of politics folks`

If the majority had won a stay vote or a Clinton victory you wouldn't have heard a whimper from anyone outside of UKIP or the Trump camp. Come off it. The Eurosceptic wing of the Conservative party have been complaining about Europe for the last 40 years. Do you think a remain vote would have shut ...

The leaks could either be from Trump's own team who are a nest of vipers playing game of thrones and stabbing each other in the back or from government agencies who are appalled about what Trump is getting up to and see leaking as the most effective counter-measure.

It is probably both.

Re: Jono Gibbes - New Head Coach

I vaguely remember the Dwayne Peel to Ulster thing years and years ago.

Was there anything behind it at the time or was it just contract trolling by Peel?

Hopefully Kiss and Gibbes can recognise a good up and coming coach..

Re: Film Review Section *** NEWish ***

Denial - film based upon the true story of the libel case involving holocaust denier, David Irving. I enjoyed it - it reminded me a bit of "Spotlight" in that most of the film is about people going about their job. Rachel Weisz is always watchable. A solid 7/10. Live by Night - yaaaaawn. T...
